Some firms take applications all year. Roland Berger says there is usually no fixed hiring period for internships, asks for applications four to six months before the preferred start, and reviews its German consulting internships in rounds, with 15 January 2027 as the current deadline and 12 March 2027 as the next. Bain's Associate Consultant Internship and Summer Associate run 10 weeks full time, Roland Berger's consulting internship in its German offices runs 10 to 12 weeks, and PA Consulting's UK summer internships run eight weeks, its consulting one a condensed version of its Graduate Consulting Rotational Programme. Bain also runs exploratory programmes of one week or less, such as Bainworks, and part-time programmes of one to several months, such as ExperienceBain, and says internship length may vary by office.

Bain's Associate Consultant Internship is typically for bachelor's and master's students with one full summer left before graduation, on track to graduate by June 2028 where the office asks it. Roland Berger's German offices take students of every field from the fourth semester, and it runs a Summer Associate Program for MBA students. PA Consulting's UK summer internships are for penultimate-year undergraduates or finalists planning a master's, and its consulting internship has no specific degree requirement. Bain says that, based on performance, an intern may be offered an associate consultant position upon graduation.
