The bank lists two structured early-career routes on its careers page:

• International Professionals Programme – a 24-month scheme for recent graduates, built around rotations through relevant departments and a mandatory assignment to one of the bank's Resident Offices, with tracks including Banking, Risk, Climate Strategy & Delivery, Evaluation, Finance, Operations, HR & OD, Communications and IT.
• Internships – three to six months, extendable to a maximum of twelve, advertised on a rolling basis rather than as a single annual intake, and open to current postgraduates or recent undergraduates within twelve months of finishing.

The two routes target different career stages: the International Professionals Programme expects 6 to 12 months of prior work, travel or volunteer experience, while internships sit immediately around graduation. A candidate typically slots into one, not both, and the IPP's rotational structure means a substantial part of the two years is spent away from London headquarters in a country of operation.

The harder threshold sits earlier: applicants for both internships and the International Professionals Programme must be nationals of one of EBRD's shareholder countries.

That nationality requirement is a gate, not a soft preference. A candidate from a non-shareholder country is not eligible regardless of qualifications, so checking the shareholder list before applying is the first filter, ahead of any CV polish.

Two consequences follow for an early-career hire: the International Professionals Programme embeds a mandatory rotation to a Resident Office, so a Banking-track participant spends part of the two years physically inside a country of operation rather than London; and recruitment is gated to nationals of the bank's shareholder countries, mirroring its governance.

Against a commercial-bank graduate scheme, the choice turns on geography and mandate rather than training depth. The work is direct private-sector investment in transition economies, the rotations relocate the role into those markets, and the nationality gate narrows the candidate pool before any interview.
