Selection runs on EY's strengths-based framework rather than a competency rubric, and a candidate may hold only one EY application in any six-month window. For the 2026 cycle, EY Experience Days and final interviews ran from mid-October 2025, so the assessment stages sit squarely inside the same autumn window most other UK professional-services deadlines fall in.

EY's UK Early Careers ladder spans five entry points across the firm's four service lines (Assurance, Consulting, EY-Parthenon and Tax):

• Discover EY: a two-day hybrid insight programme for first-year undergraduates (second-year on a four-year course)
• Summer Internship: a paid four- or eight-week placement for penultimate-year undergraduates
• Industrial Placement: a paid one-year placement for penultimate-year undergraduates
• Graduate Programme: full-time entry roles for finalists and recent graduates across the four service lines
• Apprenticeships: school-leaver and Level 7 apprenticeship routes, the latter Ofsted-rated outstanding

The one-application-per-six-months rule means service line and programme are locked in at the point of applying: a candidate has to decide between, say, Assurance and EY-Parthenon before any assessment runs, with no swaps mid-process.

Candidates needing a work permit had to apply by Friday 28 November 2025 for the April 2026 intake or Friday 1 May 2026 for the September 2026 intake, to leave enough processing time; EY had not published 2027 cut-off dates as of mid-2026. The combination of the cap, the salary floor and the earlier deadline is a hard gate: it narrows the realistic UK shortlist for a candidate requiring sponsorship and pulls their application timeline weeks ahead of the rolling general deadline most peers face.

A few features genuinely separate the UK early-career entry from peers: EY removed the minimum UCAS-points and degree-classification requirement in 2016, ahead of the sector; selection runs on the firm's published Strengths Framework rather than a traditional competency rubric; and EY-Parthenon, EY's strategy and transactions arm, recruits a dedicated undergraduate and graduate stream alongside Assurance, Consulting and Tax. A candidate choosing EY over the other Big Four is buying the strategy-arm entry route, the strengths-based selection mechanic, and one of the most academically open application gates in the field.
