Banks such as CIBC and RBC hire co-op students for three work terms a year, and CIBC opens applications in January for May to August, in May for September to December, and in September for January to April.

At RBC, a co-op placement runs from 4 to 16 months depending on the program, and a summer internship in Capital Markets runs 14 to 16 weeks.
CIBC's three work terms run January to April, May to August and September to December. At the University of Toronto, engineering students who have completed Year 3 can take the Professional Experience Year (PEY) Co-op, a full-time, paid work term of 12 to 16 months.

At RBC and CIBC, two of the banks our record follows in Toronto, internships and co-ops are mostly for current college and university students, and each program sets its own year of study.
RBC's Summer Analyst Programs are for students in the second-to-last year of their studies, while its Capital Markets summer internships are open to all post-secondary students. Its technology co-ops take students enrolled in relevant technical programs at a university or college. CIBC offers its work terms to current students, with some positions open to recent graduates.
