OPTrust

OPTrust hires co-op and internship students on a rolling basis throughout the year rather than through a single annual graduate scheme, with placements running inside seven functional teams (campus programs):

• Investments
• Legal Services
• Information Technology Operations and Security
• Risk, Actuarial Services and Plan Policy
• Finance and Facilities, Accounting and Tax
• Member Experience and Pension Operations
• People and Communications

Because there is no single generalist intern pool, the team named on a posting functions closer to a specialization choice than a choice of employer: matching a specific team's mandate matters more here than for a firm that runs one broad analyst class.

OPTrust's Private Markets Group runs direct infrastructure, private equity and real estate investing out of dedicated offices in Toronto, London and Sydney, rather than routing private-markets exposure through external fund managers alone. In August 2025, OPTrust increased its ownership stake to 50 per cent in the Sen̓áḵw development in Vancouver, a roughly four-million-square-foot, up to 6,000-unit rental housing project built with the Squamish Nation and described by OPTrust's own CEO as one of the largest First Nations economic development projects in Canadian history. OPTrust Select, launched in 2018, was the first new jointly sponsored defined-benefit pension product for modest-income earners introduced in Canada in a generation. A co-op student placed in Investments or Legal Services is working adjacent to live direct-investment and product-design work, not just monitoring third-party fund allocations.
