Eligibility is consistent across regions – currently enrolled in a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD program with at least one semester remaining after the internship – but the program shape varies sharply by country:

• U.S.: 12–14 week paid summer internship, starting May–June and ending August–September.
• Canada: 4, 8, 12, or 16 month internships.
• EMEA: year-round internships from 3 to 36 months – France 6 months, Germany 3–6 months, Ireland 3–12 months (EU citizens only), Israel 1.5–4 years, Italy 6 months, Netherlands 4 months, Austria 3–6 months, Finland 3 months.

The U.S. internship is a standard 12–14 week summer engineering placement, but the European tracks are structured more like extended placements or apprenticeships of six months to several years. A candidate targeting a European Qualcomm internship is signing up for time off the academic calendar rather than a summer between terms, which is a materially different commitment and a different conversion path into full-time roles.

Eligibility for European internships is geo-specific: per Qualcomm's EMEA internships page, Ireland-based interns must be EU citizens, and Israel-based interns must be available for 1.5 to 4 years.

The sponsorship picture is therefore not uniform: a non-EU candidate cannot apply to the Ireland program at all, and a candidate from a U.S.-restricted country applying in the U.S. is signing up for a government-authorisation step that gates not only employment but also which Qualcomm technologies they can be staffed on once hired.

Its Snapdragon mobile system-on-chip line is the leading premium Android SoC family and a dominant supplier of 5G modems per independent market trackers; Qualcomm reports around $39 billion in fiscal 2024 revenue and operates 170 offices across more than 30 countries.

For an early-career engineer choosing between large semiconductor employers, the franchise is narrower than a general-purpose chipmaker such as Intel or AMD: the work routed through Qualcomm concentrates on wireless modems, mobile SoCs, and increasingly automotive and PC silicon. The choice between Qualcomm and a peer is therefore partly a choice about which corner of the semiconductor stack to spend the first few years in, not just where to work.
