Summer Analyst Profile

Candidate Attributes

Successful Summer Analysts must be able to multitask and manage a variety of projects simultaneously. Candidates must demonstrate professionalism and client management skills, alongside strong technical, written, and verbal communication skills. This role is fast-paced, intense, and intellectually stimulating.

Essential traits for a successful candidate include the ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines, adaptability, and the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team. While a background in programming or finance is helpful, JFIN hires interns from a variety of disciplines.

Financial Planning and Accounting (FP&A) Summer Analyst Role

The FP&A intern will be staffed on our Finance and Accounting teams and will primarily be responsible for:

• Assisting in the preparation of internal monitoring and reporting for senior management.
• Customizing presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
• Assisting in the analysis of accounting data.

Interns serve as generalists, gaining exposure to a comprehensive list of financial and accounting responsibilities critical to the management of a diversified financial institution. Additional responsibilities may include:

• Preparing reconciliations of cash and investment positions and tracking expenses.
• Assisting in monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes and related reporting.
• Assisting in the annual audit, including preparation of year-end schedules for overall consolidated financial statements, disclosures, and analysis.
• Designing and updating presentations for various institutional investors, rating agencies, other financial institutions, in addition to management and other internal parties.
• Assisting with specific reporting/analysis requests and special projects.
• Assisting Managing Directors and senior staff as needed with various reports and analyses of strategic initiatives.
