Corporate Finance Overview
The Finance Group supports the dynamic needs of the business by providing accounting, treasury, tax, regulatory, and financial reporting/analysis services, while establishing and monitoring organization-wide internal controls. A role within the Finance division provides an overview of Nomura’s overall financial performance, including an understanding of revenues, expenses, regulatory, capital, and other financial resources.
Summer Analyst Program
The Summer Analyst Program runs for 10 weeks. Analysts will enjoy extensive contact with Nomura professionals at all levels through discussion groups, seminars, and informal social functions. This program is an integral component of full-time recruiting. It is not a rotational program.
Summer Analysts are expected to form effective working relationships and demonstrate commitment to the firm’s goals and values. During the internship, Summer Analysts work closely with peers and interact regularly with a senior mentor.
Summer Analysts aim to have the same level of exposure as a first-year Analyst, including hands-on opportunities to participate as full members of the team.
What Roles You Might Play
Business Finance & Control
Product Control
- Perform timely daily and monthly P&L reconciliation, reporting, and analysis.
- Provide appropriate P&L commentary on drivers (daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly).
- Work with trading desks and Operations teams to resolve trade booking and/or valuation issues and field trading desk queries.
- Complete month-end close reconciliations for P&L and balance sheet and support balance sheet attestation.
Independent Portfolio Valuations (IPV)
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of Nomura’s trading book valuations through systematic verification of pricing models, methodologies, and fair value determinations.
- Test model inputs and collaborate with front office and risk management teams to resolve pricing discrepancies.
Cash Management and Analytics / Management Information
- Analyze, provide commentary, and present America’s performance, including revenues, costs, and financial resources.
- Produce ad hoc financial requests, including periodic trend analyses with appropriate explanation and justification.
Financial Control
- Own the month-end close process, analyze and reconcile accounts, and prepare financial statements.
Control & Oversight
- US Finance Quality Assurance is an independent team that evaluates and assures the ongoing robustness and effectiveness of US Finance internal controls.
- Conduct monthly and ongoing QA reviews of balance sheet activities for adherence to governance and control frameworks.
- Manage the Account Attestation process for Finance, ensuring each balance sheet account is assigned to an appropriate owner and attestation is performed per AV policy guidelines.
Regulatory Reporting
- Assist with the preparation of the monthly FOCUS report.
- Prepare and analyze daily net capital for broker-dealer requirements.
- Provide appropriate commentary on variances day over day.
- Collaborate with various departments to resolve trade booking and/or valuation issues.
Chief Administrative Office: Strategic Initiatives
- The Regional Americas CFO Initiatives team manages a portfolio of change initiatives to help achieve Finance’s strategic short- and long-term objectives.
- After initiative identification, define the objective and stakeholders, formulate a delivery plan, track against milestones, and report progress, issues, and risks.
- Support initiatives across Finance areas (including Tax, Treasury, Financial Control, Regulatory Reporting, Management Reporting, and Business Finance & Control) and support cross-functional Business initiatives.
Desired Skillset
- Outstanding academic qualifications.
- Strong communication and interpersonal relationship skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to understand financial products.
Requirements
- GPA of 3.2+.
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree (preferably Accounting, Finance, or FinTech).
- Graduating between December 2027 and June 2029 from a college/university in the United States.
- Applicants must be currently authorized to work for any employer in the United States.
- The Finance Division is not currently sponsoring or taking over sponsorship of employment visas for this position now or in the future, including for CPT, OPT, etc.
Salary
- Set base salary at an annualized rate of $65,000 per year for rising juniors.
- Set base salary at an annualized rate of $75,000 per year for rising seniors.
- Non-exempt position eligible for overtime in accordance with applicable state and federal laws.
