Ready to take what you’ve learned at university and put it into practice? Spend a year gaining real experience with BDO on our Audit Industrial Placement. This is an opportunity to build skills, work with clients, and potentially return on our Graduate Programme.

The programme starts on Monday, 20th September 2027 for an organisation-wide induction, which requires attendance.

About Audit

In Audit, you will be involved in client work and trusted with increasing levels of responsibility. As part of a team of over 6,000 people across the UK, you will benefit from diverse expertise and perspectives.

Our Audit teams cover specialist areas including Pension Audit, Public Sector, Not-for-Profit, Financial Services, and Technology Risk Assurance, giving you insight into how different organisations operate. You will learn by doing, build your confidence, and discover which areas of work interest you, all while having dedicated support and feedback from colleagues.

The Placement Programme

Over your placement year, you will gain hands-on Audit experience, developing crucial technical, commercial, and relationship-building skills while working with clients and colleagues.

During your time with BDO, you can:

• Sit three professional exams.
• Log six months of practical work experience with the relevant Professional Body.
• Return to BDO on the Graduate Programme, allowing you to complete remaining exams and training in 2.5 years and qualify around six months sooner.
• Apply to return to your placement team, with the chance to secure a graduate offer before your final year of university.

You will have opportunities to work alongside experienced colleagues and senior leaders, contribute directly to client work, and take on increasing responsibilities as your confidence grows. Previous placement students have highlighted being trusted early, having their ideas welcomed, and gaining direct exposure to partners.

Important Note: You must live within a commutable distance of the office you apply to. Relocation support is not provided, so please consider this carefully. In-person time—whether in the office or with clients—is vital for your learning, relationship building, and maximising your placement experience.

We are looking for individuals who are curious, resilient, and ready to embrace new challenges. You should enjoy problem-solving and applying your academic knowledge in practical situations.

You do not need to arrive knowing everything. We encourage you to bring your energy and willingness to get involved; we will provide the experience, feedback, and support you need to build from there.

Application Requirements

To apply, you must meet the following criteria:

• Be a second-year student on a four-year undergraduate degree seeking a third-year work placement.
• Be on track for a minimum 2:2 degree in any discipline (obtained or predicted).
• Hold three A-levels or equivalent at grades A*-C (excluding General Studies and Extended Projects) or four Scottish Advanced Highers at grade A-B. (UCAS points are not used; evidence will be required if successful).
• Hold GCSEs at grade 4 and above in Maths and English, or Scottish National 5 grade A-C. (Evidence will be required if successful).
• Hold the right to work in the UK.

Interview Process

The typical interview process includes the following stages:

1. Online application form.
2. Online assessments.
3. Video interview.
4. Virtual assessment centre and interview.

Salary and Deadlines

Salary: £26,615 - £29,700 (dependent on location)
