Online-assessment results return within a couple of days, but interview shortlisting can take "a couple of weeks or longer", so a candidate running this loop alongside autumn applications elsewhere is usually waiting through two distinct decision windows before the final stage.

HSBC's university students and graduates hub groups its entry routes into three named tracks:

• Insight Programmes: one to five days, for students at various stages; offered in Hong Kong, mainland China, Mexico, Poland and the UK.
• Internships and Work Placements: eight- to ten-week internships for penultimate-year students and recent graduates, with six- to eighteen-month placements as a separate strand; offered across Hong Kong, India, mainland China, Poland, Singapore, Switzerland, Taiwan, the UAE, the UK and the US.
• Graduate Programmes: one- to two-year tracks for final-year students and recent graduates, in Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, mainland China, Malaysia, Mexico, Poland, Singapore, Switzerland, Taiwan, the UAE, the UK and the US.

Function families on offer include investment banking, trading, sales and investments, relationship management, technology, and analysis and data. With 13 countries on the graduate map and ten on internships, the application question is less which firm to apply to than which country-and-function combination – each runs its own application window and its own assessment centre, so a candidate applying across regions is preparing multiple parallel processes.

The firm warns that any offer is subject to immigration approval before the start date, and that legal changes in the location of work can affect outcomes. Sponsorship is therefore a programme-by-programme gate rather than a firm-wide yes or no: a candidate needing sponsorship has to read the eligibility paragraph on each specific role page before adding it to a shortlist.

The application architecture is correspondingly federated – each country runs its own opening window, assessment centre and visa-sponsorship rule, rather than a single regional cohort.
