Finance Intern (6-month contract)

Job Summary

The Intern will support the Asia Pacific (APAC) Financial & Strategic Steering (PIL) team in carrying out missions including Asset Liability Management (ALM), performance monitoring, Fund Transfer Pricing, and financial steering. The role will provide an overview of the Bank’s business in the region and exposure to a wide range of internal stakeholders across Asia Pacific, from the Front Office and Support Functions.

Internship start date: 1 January 2027.

Key Responsibilities

• Asset & Liability Management (ALM): Produce ALM-related indicators used by the team to monitor ALM risks. Support the team in preparing presentation materials for the monthly regional Liquidity Risk Committee, as well as in preparing ad hoc analyses on relevant topics.
• Financial steering: Support senior team members in monitoring the usage of scarce resources within APAC (Capital, Liquidity, RWA, balance-sheet size, etc.). Develop metrics and provide regular ad hoc analyses to identify APAC P&L drivers and levers for profitability improvements.
• Tool enhancement: Identify, propose, and implement process and tool improvements to reduce the team’s production workload. Upgrade existing Excel/Power BI tools and processes, and develop new solutions to better address team needs.

Mandatory Reference Checking (MRC)

In accordance with the Mandatory Reference Checking (MRC) Scheme implemented by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), a successful candidate for an in-scope position who has held a position with an in-scope institution in the past 7 years will be subject to a mandatory reference check.

Candidate Criteria

Minimum Education

• Bachelor’s Degree/BSc degree (or equivalent)
• Bachelor’s or Master’s student in Engineering or Finance

Experience

• 0–2 years (internship experience in banking preferred, within ALM, Treasury, or Finance is a plus)
• Coding/IT project experience is required through academic work, prior internships, and/or personal projects

Required Skills

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Strong presentation and problem-solving skills
• Team player able to manage projects with some autonomy
• Proactive learner and self-starter committed to continuous improvement

Technical Skills Required

• Good coding skills and knowledge in at least one coding language

• Good written and oral English
