Internship Program Overview
Javelin’s Internship offers a 6-week rotational programme allowing interns to experience life within one of the world’s leading commodity businesses.
Induction Week (First 2 Weeks)
The initial two weeks involve full induction into the business. This includes small group sessions covering each department to provide full oversight of business operations, alongside team-building sessions with fellow interns to foster camaraderie. Interns progress through this process as a group, sharing the experience with future commodity leaders. Each intern will be partnered with an industry expert mentor to fast-track learning and maximize time within the firm.
Rotations
Following the induction weeks, interns will rotate across various commercial teams to gain in-depth knowledge of their functions and contributions to Javelin’s success. Each rotation provides a unique, first-hand look into dynamic global commodity markets. This phase is critical for understanding career opportunities at Javelin while working alongside industry leaders, focusing on the importance of customer service. Interns will focus on three key trading desks:
- Bulk Commodities: This desk is at the forefront of global power, cement, steel, and industrial bulk commodity markets, offering a full range of services from marketing and procurement to logistics and blend services.
- Metals: Javelin is a global leader in scrap steel, hot briquetted iron, pig iron, steel products, and battery metals. This desk is central to the green transition for metals, meeting the demand for lower-carbon supply chains and supporting the next wave of road transport through battery metals access.
- Green: Combining proven technologies, innovation, and market access, Javelin supports the transition to greener metals, waste recycling, land remediation, soil enhancement, and carbon capture. Javelin engages in wide-ranging bioenergy projects across power, farming, land remediation, industrial, and steel sectors, providing services including technical and commercial assessments, offtake, working capital, and financial support to major green sector players.
Research Project
At the start of the programme, an intern will be assigned a strategic project to develop and progress throughout the placement. Supported by their mentor, the intern will apply learnings across the business to create a tangible opportunity, improvement, or new process that delivers value to Javelin. In the final week, the focus shifts to refining the project before presenting recommendations and outcomes to senior management, including the CEO. This offers a unique chance to make a lasting impact while gaining authentic insight into fast-paced commodity trading.
