Internship Opportunity

Javelin’s Internship is a 6-week program where you will rotate across commercial teams to experience what it’s like to work at one of the world’s leading commodity businesses.

Induction Week

During the first two weeks, you will be fully integrated into the business. This includes small group sessions covering each department to provide full oversight of business operations, alongside team-building sessions with fellow interns to foster camaraderie. As a cohort, you will experience the onboarding process together, building relationships with future commodity leaders. You will be partnered with an industry expert mentor who will guide your experience to maximize your learning within the firm.

Rotations

Following induction, you will rotate across various commercial teams to gain in-depth knowledge of how these teams function and contribute to Javelin's success. Each rotation offers a unique opportunity to experience the dynamic global commodity markets firsthand. This part of the program allows interns to gauge career opportunities at Javelin while working with industry leaders, gathering knowledge, and appreciating the importance of customer service. You will focus on the following three trading desks:

• Bulk Commodities: This highly successful desk focuses on the global power, cement, steel, and industrial bulk commodity markets. Javelin provides a full spectrum of services, from marketing and procurement to logistics and blend services.
• Metals: Javelin is a global leader in the scrap steel, hot briquetted iron, pig iron, steel products, and battery metals markets. This desk is integral to the green transition, as traditional markets seek lower-carbon supply chains, and future road transport relies heavily on access to battery metals.
• Green: Utilizing proven technologies, innovation, and market access, Javelin supports the transition to greener metals, recycling of waste, land remediation, soil enhancement, and carbon capture. Javelin is involved in numerous bioenergy projects aimed at reducing carbon emissions across the power, farming, land remediation, industrial, and steel sectors. Our project support includes technical and commercial assessments for offtake, working capital, and financial backing, working with major players in the green sector on a massive scale.

Research Project

At the beginning of the program, you will be assigned a strategic project to develop and progress throughout your placement. With mentorship support, you will leverage your learning across the business to create a tangible opportunity, improvement, or new process that can deliver value to Javelin. In your final week, you will refine and perfect your project before presenting your recommendations and outcomes to the senior management team, including the CEO. This offers a unique chance to make a lasting impact while gaining authentic insight into the fast-paced world of commodity trading.

Skills and Experience Required

• Currently enrolled in a degree in a STEM, Business, or Finance-related field.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
• A strong interest in a career within the commodities industry.
• Self-motivated and capable of collaborating effectively with a global team.
• Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload.
• Excellent communication skills, including listening, rapport building, and negotiation.
• A creative mindset with a flair for problem-solving.

Interview Process

The interview process consists of three stages:

1. Interview with HR: This stage covers cultural questions designed to determine alignment with Javelin values.
2. Functional Interviews: You will meet with members of the teams you will be working with, where competency-based questions will assess your abilities.
