Internship Overview

Javelin’s Internship provides a 6-week programme where interns rotate through the Operations department to gain comprehensive experience within one of the world’s leading commodity businesses.

Induction Weeks

The first two weeks are dedicated to fully inducting you into the business. This period includes small group sessions providing full oversight of how each department operates, alongside team-building sessions with fellow interns. You will be paired with a mentor—an industry expert who will guide and fast-track your learning experience to maximize your time at Javelin.

Rotations

Following induction, you will rotate between various operations teams to gain in-depth knowledge of how these teams function and contribute to Javelin's success, particularly regarding the lifecycle of all traded commodities. This phase allows interns to understand the career opportunities available while working alongside industry leaders. You will spend time with:

  • Settlements: This team manages the reconciliation, confirmation, and settlement for deals across our diverse range of commodity products. In collaboration with the wider logistics team and traders, they ensure accurate risk capture and timely execution of debits and credits.
  • Documentation: This team manages the contract documentation for client agreements across our wide commodity product range. Working with the Logistics team and traders, they ensure the full trade lifecycle is effectively supported.
  • Trade Finance: A core group within Javelin, this team is responsible for providing liquidity for trade-related working capital cycles, which is essential for maintaining trade flow across all trading desks.

Strategic Project

At the start of the programme, you will be assigned a strategic project to develop and progress throughout your placement. Supported by your mentor, you will leverage your learning across the business to create a tangible improvement, new process, or opportunity that delivers value to Javelin. During your final week, you will focus on refining this project before presenting your recommendations and outcomes to senior management, including the CEO. This offers a unique chance to make a lasting impact while gaining authentic insight into the fast-paced world of commodity trading.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Currently enrolled in a degree program in a STEM, Business, or Finance-related field.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • A strong interest in a career within the commodities industry.
  • Self-motivated and able to collaborate effectively with a global team.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to perform multiple tasks and prioritize work.
  • Excellent communication skills (including listening, rapport building, and negotiation).
  • A creative mindset with a flair for problem-solving.

Interview Process

The interview process consists of three stages:

  1. Interview with HR: This session will cover cultural questions designed to determine alignment with Javelin's values.
  2. Functional Interviews: You will meet with members of the teams you will be working with and will be asked competency-based questions to assess your abilities.
