Short Description

Build skills in sales and trading at the heart of global financial markets.

Who You Are

We’re looking for analytical problem-solvers who thrive in fast-paced environments and want to learn how the global financial markets work.

  • Intellectually curious: Eager to understand what drives decisions, trends, and opportunities, with a strong desire to dig deeper.
  • A natural communicator: Able to break down complex ideas, ask smart questions, and share views confidently.
  • Detail-focused and analytical: Able to spot what others might miss, understand why precision matters, and interpret data to identify patterns and insights.
  • A resilient problem solver: Able to stay focused under pressure, prioritise what matters, and look for solutions; motivated to keep learning and tackle new challenges.
  • Adaptable: Open to new ideas, tools, and ways of working, understanding that financial markets don’t stand still.
  • A team player: Builds trusted relationships and collaborates effectively to learn and grow.

What You’ll Do

  • Rotate between Sales and Trading desks during your internship to see how both sides work together to help clients succeed.
  • Work around market hours, including early starts and a fast pace, with the busiest moments often at market open and close.
  • Get hands-on with data and global market dynamics by analysing market trends, spotting patterns, collecting and presenting data, contributing to reports, supporting client pitches, and maintaining trading and sales performance records.
  • Contribute to real projects that strengthen client relationships and trading strategies.
  • Work with Trading and Sales teams to support client portfolios and learn about key asset classes, including foreign exchange, emerging market rates, commodities, global debt markets, equities, and securities financing.
  • Build tools and finance models using Excel, VBA, or Python to support trading and sales activity.
  • Learn and use industry platforms such as Bloomberg, Reuters, and HSBC’s own tools.
  • Build a strong foundation in financial products and how they’re used.
  • Understand how risk and profitability are managed while helping clients make smart decisions.

The programme begins with a week of technical and behavioural skills training to help you hit the ground running. By the end of the internship, you’ll know whether a role in Sales or Trading is the best fit for you. If you perform well and enjoy your time, you may have the opportunity for a spot on the graduate programme.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, you must:

  • Be available to work full time for 10 weeks commencing March 2027.
  • Have obtained, or expect to achieve, a minimum GPA of 4.0/5.0 or 3.2/4.0 (or an overseas equivalent as shown on your official university transcript or degree certificate).
  • Be fluent in English; knowledge of Mandarin/Cantonese would be an advantage.
  • Be legally permitted to work in Hong Kong for the full duration of the graduate programme and beyond, without requiring HSBC visa sponsorship.

Additional Notes

  • HSBC is not able to consider candidates who require visa sponsorship.
  • Only one application per recruitment cycle is accepted.
  • Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and the vacancy may close earlier than the advertised closing date if application volume is high.
