Systems Administrator (New York)
The D. E. Shaw group seeks motivated individuals with impressive records of academic and/or professional achievement to join our Systems team as systems administrators. Systems administrators provide support, automation, and management for a wide variety of enterprise technology, including a sophisticated Windows and Linux desktop/server environment, cutting-edge storage and clustered computing solutions, and a number of communications platforms. If you’re interested in technology and have a desire to help users understand how to use technology better while solving interesting problems, we encourage you to apply.
What You’ll Do Day-to-Day
- Provide support and complete project work across a wide range of technology, including Windows PCs and servers, UNIX servers, mobile devices, and an advanced communications infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues.
- Administer infrastructure-level systems.
- Implement automation and efficiency improvements.
- Use independent research, prior experience, and critical analysis to resolve unfamiliar problems and advance challenging work.
What We’re Looking For
- Interest in both building technology and helping others use it effectively.
- Strong research and analytical skills to resolve unfamiliar problems and advance challenging work.
- Knowledge of the Microsoft Windows enterprise environment and standard applications (e.g., Microsoft Office).
- Demonstrated interest in improving processes and technology.
- Familiarity with general systems administration, including hardware and software administration and phone, desk-side, trade floor, and/or remote user support.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, including the ability to work with global colleagues across a variety of backgrounds, experiences, and projects.
- Motivation, curiosity, and an impressive history of achievement.
Compensation and Benefits
The expected annual base salary for this position is $100,000 to $175,000. Compensation and benefits include variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus (guaranteed in the first year of hire), a relocation bonus, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
