From colo design and implementation to optimizing exchange connectivity and building low-latency Wide Area Networks, we leverage research and automation to continuously adapt and innovate infrastructure to scale and support trading and an evolving business.

About the Role

The Systems Engineer internship is an intensive 10-week experience with our frontline technology teams responsible for managing, monitoring, and improving the real-time trading environment at Jump Trading.

You will work directly with experienced systems and network engineers, gaining broad technical and operational knowledge across all aspects of the trading platform and technology stack. This internship program is the primary way we identify top young system engineers for our teams and provides a path toward full-time opportunities at Jump.

We are looking for bright, highly motivated individuals who want to grow their knowledge of systems and networking, understand modern trading at scale, and develop practical DevOps-based software engineering skills.

What You’ll Do

The Systems Engineer Intern will work with traders, operations, exchanges, and developers to optimize the trading environment and investigate and solve system issues.

• Build automation to manage and improve the production trading environment
• Proactively monitor the overall health and performance of the trading platform
• Work closely with the technology organization to:
  • Analyze and troubleshoot complex system, software, and networking infrastructure issues
  • Design, implement, and optimize network infrastructure for proprietary low-latency trading applications across various data centers worldwide
• Work closely with risk management and trading teams to coordinate changes and manage incidents
• Manage and assess operational risk of change control into the production environment
• Define and document process and procedures
• Other duties as assigned or needed

Skills You’ll Need

• Major in Computer Science/Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field
• Experience working with Linux/UNIX OS, including advanced commands and shell scripting
• Practical working knowledge of Python
• Understanding of networking concepts such as routing, multicast, and Ethernet
• A rigorous, detail-oriented approach to operations
• Ability to operate and communicate clearly under pressure
• Desire to work in a collaborative team environment with a positive, can-do attitude
• Reliable and predictable availability
