About the Systems Engineering Internship:

Our technology operations internship is an intensive 10-week experience with frontline technology teams responsible for managing, monitoring, and improving the real-time trading environment at Jump Trading.

You will work directly with experienced systems and network engineers, gaining broad technical and operational knowledge across the entire trading platform and technology stack. This internship program is a primary pathway to identify top young systems engineers for our Technology Operations teams and to earn full-time opportunities at Jump.

We are looking for bright, highly motivated individuals who want to grow their knowledge of systems and networking, understand modern trading at scale, and build practical DevOps-based software engineering skills. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

What You’ll Do

Systems Engineer interns will work with traders, operations, exchanges, and developers to optimize the trading environment and investigate and solve systems issues.

• Proactively monitor the overall health and performance of the trading platform
• Work closely with the technology organization to:
  • Analyze and troubleshoot complex system, software, and networking infrastructure issues
  • Design, implement, and optimize network infrastructure for proprietary low-latency trading applications in data centers throughout the world
• Build automation to manage and improve the production trading environment
• Coordinate changes and manage incidents with risk management and trading teams
• Manage and assess operational risk of change control into the production environment
• Define and document processes and procedures
• Other duties as assigned or needed

Skills You’ll Need

• Major in Computer Science/Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field
• Experience working with Linux/UNIX OS, including advanced commands and shell scripts
• Practical working knowledge of Python
• Understanding of networking concepts such as routing, multicast, and Ethernet
• A rigorous, detail-oriented approach to operations
• Ability to operate and communicate clearly under pressure
• Desire to work collaboratively in a team environment with a positive “can-do” attitude
• Reliable and predictable availability
