Underwriter I - Sport & Leisure

About the Role

Underwriter I – Sport & Leisure, London, UK. You will be responsible for delivering a profitable underwriting service to clients, including underwriting within the agreed business plan and authority, supporting business planning and forecasting, monitoring financial exposure and premium income within limits, and maintaining awareness of claims advised while supporting settlement input. You will ensure adequate reinsurance coverage for specific risks and build and maintain relationships with brokers and clients. You will contribute to the design and structure of risks within Sports, Media & Entertainment for UK & Lloyd’s markets.

Responsibilities

• Review submissions including applications, policy wording, inspection reports, loss runs, and financial reports; conduct research to determine degree of risk for each account.
• Calculate appropriate risk premium by considering risk costs, reinsurance cessions, and underwriting and administration costs to ensure profitability.
• Advise, assist, service, and follow up with clients on insurance and risk management matters to ensure satisfaction.
• Manage relationships to identify cross-selling opportunities and ensure account retention.
• Ensure timely implementation of new and renewed accounts according to quality standards.
• Determine appropriate reinsurance (excess of loss and quota share) in coordination with internal teams.
• Review loss control reports and process policy endorsement requests for necessary changes.
• Support business planning and forecasting; monitor financial exposure and premium income within set limits.
• Maintain awareness of all claims advised and provide input on settlement of claims.

What you’ll bring

• Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) preferred.
• Relevant professional designations or progress toward them; willingness to undertake professional studies as required for the role.
• Proven experience in the relevant class of business with knowledge of Lloyd’s market, including Binder & MGA business.
• Excellent industry knowledge and commercial acumen; analytical, negotiation, and sales/marketing skills.
• Strong written and oral communication skills with a customer service focus.
• Interpersonal savvy and the ability to build and maintain insured and broker relationships.
• Ability to develop and understand business processes, strategy, and planning; collaborative team player with creative problem-solving abilities.
