Overview

The Summer Analyst Program is a 10-week program beginning in June. The Summer Analyst will be placed into the Legal & Compliance Division. The division assists Morgan Stanley in achieving its business objectives in a manner consistent with the Firm's core values and Global Risk Management Principles, by facilitating and overseeing the Firm's management of legal, regulatory and franchise risk. The Legal Department advises the Firm on legal, regulatory and franchise risk, including litigation and regulatory enforcement matters, corporate governance, and Firm transactions. The Non-Financial Risk Department manages risks that are not financial in nature and could impact the economy, reputation, regulatory compliance, financial reporting, or clients due to failures or inadequacies in processes, data, or controls, infrastructure or environmental factors, or actions by employees or external parties. The Non-Financial Risk Department includes Global Compliance, Global Financial Crimes, Operational Risk, Asia Data Governance, and Cybersecurity Technology & Information Security, providing a single, comprehensive second-line view of these risks. The COO Office supports regional Legal and Compliance operations, including financial and headcount oversight, department risk management (e.g., information security risk, vendor/third-party risk), people initiatives, and regional office administration.

Internship Program

This intensive 10-week program includes a firmwide orientation to Morgan Stanley’s businesses and division-specific training. Training continues throughout the summer with structured learning sessions led by senior managers. You will have opportunities to connect with peers and senior colleagues through networking, social, charity, and mentoring events.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Assist in day-to-day risk management of operational risk exposures by analyzing business activities and establishing processes and tools to monitor these risks under supervision.
  • Contribute to due diligence reviews (e.g., financial crimes concerns) of clients during the account opening process.
  • Contribute to monitoring and surveillance of transactions, employee activities, and communications.
  • Participate in transaction and control-based testing of Firm processes and controls to mitigate risks.
  • Provide support in analyzing regulations, rules, and proposals, and in drafting and coordinating regulatory updates and compliance bulletins.
  • Conduct research and assist with responses to regulatory inquiries and examinations.
  • Assist relevant teams to review and draft policies, procedures, compliance manuals, and develop/update related training courses.
  • Participate in compliance risk assessments and analyze the compliance environment and controls for a line of business.
  • Work under the direction and supervision of attorneys on assignments related to various aspects of legal practice.
  • Assist attorneys and collaborate with other teams in the Legal & Compliance Division to support the Firm and its businesses.
  • Support day-to-day operations of the Legal and Compliance Division by assisting with data analysis, reporting, and coordination across internal stakeholders.

Qualifications and Skills

  • You are pursuing an undergraduate Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with a graduation date between October 2027 and July 2028. Students from any degree/disciple are welcome to apply.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • Track record of academic excellence.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize a variety of data to produce well-designed, meaningful summaries and reports.
  • Adept at solving problems and developing efficient processes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Fluency in English required; Asian language skills preferred.
