Petroineos runs three named early-career programmes, per its Emerging Talent Overview:

• Commercial Graduate Programme (London): a 24-month fixed-term contract with at least four rotations across Trading Operations, Trading Analysis, Strategy, Product Control, Shipping, Logistics and Supply Optimisation; applications open toward the end of September each year.
• Engineer or Commercial Graduate Programme (Grangemouth, Scotland and Lavera, France): a longer 4-to-5-year development programme for candidates qualified to Masters level, combining site placements with mentoring and, where applicable, chartership support.
• Summer Internship Programme: a paid 10-to-12-week placement running roughly early July to late September, open to penultimate-year students or those who graduated within the last year; applications open in April.

The commercial graduate track and the refinery-engineering track differ by a factor of two in length, so the choice of site - a London trading floor versus the Grangemouth or Lavera refinery - is really a choice between a 2-year commercial rotation and a 5-year technical development path, worth settling before an application goes in.

The joint venture runs refineries at Grangemouth, Scotland and Lavera, France, alongside trading desks covering crude oil, refined products, and power and emissions.

For an applicant, that ownership structure means two very different parent cultures - a Chinese state-owned oil major and a British petrochemicals group - sit above the same graduate programme, unusual among independent trading houses and worth weighing against a single-parent competitor.
