IT Operations Engineer (Summer Internship)

About the Position

This IT Internship is not a typical support role. Our goal is to provide an unparalleled educational experience by immersing you in the real-world operations at Jane Street. As an intern, you will be paired with full-time employees who act as mentors, collaborating on projects that are genuinely needed.

You will be trained as if you were joining our full-time IT Operations Engineers. These engineers are responsible for the support, configuration, and operation of multiple systems across our technology stacks, including desktop engineering, networking, and various application platforms. You will contribute hands-on to improving our office environment by:

• Responding to technology support requests.
• Building and configuring Windows and Linux devices.
• Supporting our Windows domain infrastructure.
• Monitoring and supporting systems.
• Assisting with projects to optimize workflows using tools like PowerShell.

Our IT interns are collaborative, friendly problem-solvers who enjoy assisting others. You must be able to troubleshoot in real-time, engage effectively with end users, and maintain the humility to ask questions and acknowledge mistakes. This internship offers a strong introduction to Jane Street’s problem-solving methodologies, and successful interns are often offered full-time positions upon graduation.

About You

If you are new to finance, you are in good company; many of our team members started in the same position. We are looking for individuals with a curious mind, a collaborative spirit, and a passion for solving interesting problems—we are more interested in how you think and learn than what you already know. You should be:

• Knowledgeable of computer hardware components and how they interact.
• Familiar with the Windows operating system.
• Interested in learning about networking, programming, or system administration.
• Eager to help people and solve problems; possess clear and respectful communication skills.
• A reliable team player with a "no job too small" attitude.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
• Humble and unafraid to ask questions or admit mistakes.
• Able to deconstruct technical problems and willing to take a hands-on approach to diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving technical issues at the desktop, server, and network levels.
• Capable of developing and maintaining technical documentation.
• (A plus) Some familiarity with a scripting language, such as PowerShell or Bash.
