IT Operations Engineer (Summer Internship)

About the Position

If you are looking for a typical IT internship focused on basic tasks, this is not it. Our goal is to provide you with a real, immersive experience of working at Jane Street while offering an unparalleled educational opportunity. As an intern, you will be paired with full-time employees who serve as mentors, collaborating with you on essential, real-world projects.

We will train you as if you were joining our full-time IT Operations Engineers. These engineers are responsible for the support, configuration, and operation of numerous systems across our entire technology stack, including desktop engineering, networking, and various application platforms. You will participate hands-on in improving our office environment, which includes:

• Responding to technology support requests.
• Building and configuring Windows and Linux devices.
• Supporting our Windows domain infrastructure.
• Monitoring systems and providing support.
• Assisting with projects to optimize our workflow using tools like PowerShell.

Our IT interns are friendly, collaborative problem-solvers who enjoy assisting others. You must be able to troubleshoot in real time, engage effectively with end-users, and be comfortable asking questions and admitting when mistakes are made. These internships offer an excellent introduction to Jane Street and how we approach complex problem-solving across all teams. Successful interns are often invited to return for a full-time role upon graduation.

About You

If you are new to finance, you are in good company; many of us were in the same position previously. If you possess a curious mind, a collaborative spirit, and a passion for solving interesting problems, you will fit right in. We prioritize how you think and learn over what you currently know. You should be:

• Knowledgeable about computer hardware components and how they interact.
• Familiar with the Windows operating system.
• Interested in learning about networking, programming, or system administration.
• Eager to help people and solve problems; able to communicate clearly and respectfully.
• A reliable team player with a "no job too small" attitude.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
• Humble and unafraid to ask questions or admit mistakes.
• Able to deconstruct technical problems and willing to take a hands-on approach to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues at the desktop, server, and network levels.
• Capable of developing and maintaining technical documentation.
• Possessing some familiarity (personal, academic, or professional) with a scripting language such as PowerShell or Bash is a plus.
• Fluent in English.
