Equity Research Analyst/Associate - Consumer Finance

Job Description

The Consumer Finance research team covers approximately 16 companies spanning credit cards (American Express, Capital One, Synchrony), fintech and personal lending (SoFi, OneMain), and mortgages (Rocket). In partnership with the Payments research team, this group provides broad sector exposure, significant learning opportunities, and direct engagement with topics of high investor interest.

The successful candidate should possess a strong desire to learn and be intellectually curious, with strong verbal and written communication skills being essential. The role involves working closely with the Senior Analyst and broader team to develop investment ideas, conduct industry and company research, build and maintain financial models, author research reports, and engage with investors and management teams. Relevant experience in equity research is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex financial modeling and valuation work.
• Write regular industry and company reports and company launch initiations from scratch.
• Participate in IPO-related vetting and analyst days.
• Develop databases integral to our research product.
• Demonstrate strong industry knowledge and business judgment.
• Work with Senior Analysts to develop key industry themes.
• Build relationships and facilitate information flow with contacts at covered companies.
• Participate and contribute to client meetings and events.
• Attend meetings and interact with key opinion leaders.
• Closely follow and understand market, industry, and company-specific activity, and relay this information to the analyst when traveling.
• Seek out new, unusual sources of information.
• Leverage our robust network of industry contacts.
• Interact regularly with clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent years of experience.
• A minimum of 1-2 years of experience – sell-side or buy-side (research or investment banking) experience is preferred but not required.
• Credit skills are a plus.
• Must be proficient in MS Word and possess strong modeling skills in MS Excel.
• Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced and intense environment.
• Should have a basic understanding of Finance, Accounting, economics, macroeconomic factors, international affairs, and policy/politics.
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must have strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask.
• Must work well in a collaborative team environment.
• Must possess strong intellectual curiosity.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay Range: $110,000.00 - $175,000.00 annualized salary. Offers are determined based on experience, education, and skill set.

Incentive: Discretionary incentive eligible. This role is eligible to participate in the annual discretionary plan, based on individual performance, line of business/group performance, and overall Company success.
