Our Summer Internship Programme offers access to information, experts, and industry leaders. Research Analysts at Fidelity meet with company management, speak to customers, competitors, suppliers, and industry experts to understand the chances of success or failure and to forecast how share prices may evolve over the coming years.

The Team

When investment decisions relate to stocks, our Equities team leads the work. The Equities investment department is responsible for all retail and institutional funds managed by Fidelity International, including managing equity portfolios according to the investment objectives set out in the fund’s prospectus, trust document, or Investment Management Agreement (IMA).

The research department provides analysis on companies, stocks, and sectors, working closely with fund managers to select stocks for portfolios.

What You’ll Learn and Do

Over the 10-week programme, you’ll learn how analysts formulate investment theses to advise portfolio managers. You’ll research individual stocks and present your findings to a panel of senior investors.

Internship Activities

• Research a set of stocks independently.
• Be mentored by a Director of Research and learn from portfolio managers.
• Develop analytical thinking and support recommendations made on behalf of clients and Fidelity.
• Present findings and express your judgement on whether stocks should be bought or sold.
• Be given real projects and guidance from experts across the team.

The Difference You’ll Make

• Research and analyse company products, services, strategies, competitive advantages, and financial data.
• Assess companies’ current and future competitive positions.
• Investigate management team competency to determine whether companies are worthwhile investments.
• Build financial models covering profit & loss, cash flow, and balance sheet statements to identify share price drivers, forecast earnings, and estimate intrinsic value.
• Compile concise research reports and recommend companies to Portfolio Managers for inclusion in client funds.

How You’ll Be Supported

• Start with a welcome and orientation to meet fellow interns and learn about the organisation.
• Receive a company-wide Fidelity Induction in your first week, followed by specific technical training in your second week.
• Work with an assigned buddy and the wider team, including a mentor.
• Attend bite-sized learning sessions throughout the programme.
• Join weekly virtual drop-in sessions with the Early Careers team to ask questions and get support.

What We’re Looking For

We welcome applications from all degree disciplines. You will need to be in the penultimate year of your degree, graduating in 2028, and available to complete 10 weeks of full-time work this coming summer.

Key Skills and Attributes

• Intellectual curiosity: Ability to collect and analyse information from a range of sources and make well-informed judgements on industry prospects.
• Analytical skills: Comfort undertaking often complex research, interpreting data, considering differing opinions, and forming insights to support wise investment decisions.
• Articulation and persuasion: Confidence and tenacity to communicate your judgement on whether shares should be bought or sold, and to justify your thinking even when information is imperfect.
• Numeracy and resilience: Comfort with numeracy and the ability to stay focused and learn when financial markets are challenging.
• English proficiency: You must be able to speak English.

• Assessments: Online assessments are required and are expected to take around 40 minutes.
• Assessment centres: Take place in November.
