Summer College Internship Program
The Summer College Internship Program is a paid, 10-week experience designed for undergraduate and graduate students. Interns are provided with opportunities to attend development workshops, network, and contribute to meaningful projects while being mentored by their respective managers throughout the summer.
Interns may work within several skills-based tracks, including Business Administration, Information Technology, Actuarial, Human Resources, Analytics & Data, Communications, Finance, Marketing & Sales, Project Management, Clinical Studies, Customer Experience, Digital Operations, and various other technical and non-technical degree programs.
Program Details
- This is a paid 10-week summer internship, typically running from the first Monday in June to the second Friday in August (up to 40 hours per week).
- Interns may be placed in either a technical or non-technical area.
- Development workshops are provided to aid in the transition from academia to the corporate environment.
- Housing is not provided as part of this program.
Essential Accountabilities (Healthcare Analytics Intern Focus)
Specific duties vary by assignment and division. The Healthcare Analytics Intern will be embedded within the Healthcare Analytics team, supporting projects aimed at improving healthcare affordability, quality, utilization management, and data-driven decision-making. This role offers hands-on experience with healthcare data to deliver actionable insights to business and clinical stakeholders.
- Extract, validate, and analyze healthcare claims, enrollment, provider, and quality data.
- Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, and ad hoc analyses for leadership and operational teams.
- Conduct data quality reviews to identify anomalies, trends, and opportunities for process improvement.
- Document business requirements, data definitions, and analytical methodologies.
- Assist with data visualization and storytelling by translating complex findings into clear, actionable summaries.
- Learn core healthcare analytics concepts, including utilization, cost and trend analysis, provider performance, quality measures, and population health metrics.
- Work with a mentor and support key strategic projects.
- Complete work assignments based on business needs, departmental priorities, and individual qualifications.
- Perform a mix of technical and non-technical tasks covering a broad range of business-related projects.
- Create and deliver presentations upon completion of the internship.

- Maintain strict confidentiality and protection of member privacy in accordance with company policies.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
- Perform other functions as assigned by management.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Desired Majors/Degree Programs Include: Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Public Health, Business & Management (e.g., Finance, Actuarial, Accounting, Management, Marketing, Supply Chain Management); Computing Sciences & Information Technology (e.g., Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT Networking, Cybersecurity); Social Sciences (e.g., Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, Law/Pre-Law); Health Professions & Life Sciences (e.g., Nursing, Public Health, Biology, Pharmacy) or similar programs.
- High School diploma, coupled with proof of continuous full-time college enrollment (undergraduate or graduate degree program).
- Must be in good academic standing.

- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining strong attention to detail to deliver high-quality work.

- Demonstrates strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and prioritization skills.
- Possesses a proactive approach to work, displaying creativity and flexibility in completing assigned tasks.
- Is self-motivated, capable of working independently, and able to contribute to both intra- and inter-departmental teams as needed.
- Commitment to the continuous improvement of skills and team functioning.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and experience using a desktop computer in a professional setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Candidates should be curious, analytical, and interested in applying data to solve real-world healthcare business problems.
- Prior experience with data analysis using SQL, SAS, or similar analytical tools.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, data manipulation, and basic reporting.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
- Understanding of database concepts and data structures.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work while sitting and/or standing at a workstation, viewing a computer, and using a keyboard, mouse, and/or phone for three or more hours at a time.
- Ability to travel across the Health Plan service region as needed for meetings and/or training.
Compensation and EEO
Compensation Range (Level I): Minimum $18.00 - Maximum $20.00.
The indicated salary range represents the minimum and maximum for this position. Actual salary depends on factors including budget, prior experience, knowledge, skill, and education relative to the minimum qualifications, as well as internal equity. This range is one component of the total rewards package, which may also include group health/dental insurance, a retirement plan, wellness programs, paid time off, and paid holidays.
