Job Description
We are seeking an Attorney to join our Legal Department to provide broad legal support for the firm’s asset management business. This includes supporting portfolio management, research, trading activities, investment products, and related regulatory matters. This role partners closely with trading, product, compliance, and operations teams to provide ongoing support to the front office business, launches, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will either be comfortable advising on the regulatory framework applicable to a globally operating asset management business (including SEC and CFTC laws and regulations in the US) or be able and willing to quickly learn and implement that knowledge.
This role can be based in Minneapolis, Boston, New York, or Charlotte.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Advisory
- Advise on U.S. regulatory frameworks including Dodd-Frank, SEC and CFTC rules, Investment Advisers Act, FINRA, and state securities laws.
- Monitor regulatory developments across derivatives, trading, and advisory, and assess the impact on business practices and documentation.
- Provide guidance on cross-border regulatory requirements, including EMIR and margin rules where applicable.
Documentation & Negotiation
- Draft, review, and negotiate trading and advisory agreements, including ISDA Master Agreements, CSAs, MSFTAs, futures and options documentation, prime brokerage, and advisory agreements.
- Maintain legal templates, playbooks, and negotiation guidelines.
Product & Strategic Support
- Support fund launches and new product development as needed.
- Provide legal input on trading strategies, investment products, and client solutions.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Partner with trading, risk, compliance, operations, client management, and product teams.
- Coordinate with counterparties, regulators, and outside counsel.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) and active bar membership.
- 0–3 years of experience in a law firm or in-house at a financial institution.
- Understanding of U.S. financial regulation and investor protection frameworks.
- Knowledge of the asset management business.
- Strong drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
- Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to synthesize complex legal issues into practical advice.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively across teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with U.S. fund structures or trading documentation is preferred.
Work Environment

Employees are expected to work in the office at least four (4) days per week, with flexibility to work from home one (1) day per week. Compensation and Logistics
Base Pay Salary: The estimated base salary for this role is $78,700 - $138,200 per year. We operate with a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy. Initial total compensation may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographical work location. Furthermore, most roles are eligible for variable pay in the form of bonus, commissions, and/or long-term incentives depending on the role.
