Role Summary

The role is to assist senior team members in the day-to-day business activities and contribute to a variety of tasks, allowing a general introduction to the business of RISK MFI, Global Equities, and Global Markets.

This position is situated within the RISK Markets and Financial Institutions (MFI) – Analysis & Decisions – Global Equities Market Risk team, covering market risk generated by the Global Equities business line within Global Markets (GM).

Key Responsibilities

The team focuses on three main areas:

  • Business Line Leadership: Serving as the center of expertise and point of contact for the business line, providing a holistic view of risks and activities, escalating issues appropriately, and understanding how processes from other RISK MFI teams apply to the business line.
  • Risk Anticipation and Detection: Anticipating, detecting, monitoring, analyzing, and providing opinions on all market and issuer risks. This includes early identification and in-depth review of hidden risks and potential threats, concluding with clear recommendations for risk mitigation actions, and escalating to RISK and business management.
  • Risk Control Framework: Designing and continuously improving the market risk control framework, which includes risk analysis tools, limits, and stress testing. This involves maintaining a holistic view of valuation and capital metrics and escalating concerns in these areas.

Specific Duties Include:

  • Serving as the point of contact for Global Markets (GM) on Global Equities market risk topics.
  • Articulating main risks and providing risk opinions to management.
  • Reviewing and providing opinions on information and views supplied by GM.
  • Understanding the valuation, capital, funding, and liquidity impact of the business line.
  • Providing expert support to other RISK teams and understanding business-line valuation and capital risk frameworks.
  • Performing market risk analysis for structured and complex transactions.
  • Chairing meetings for Global Equities Main Positions, providing independent risk analysis and challenging the business view.
  • Performing in-depth, ad-hoc analysis, formulating opinions, and escalating market risk topics affecting the business line.
  • Analyzing risk using available tools, driving tool improvement, and ensuring adequate understanding of high-risk areas.
  • Setting and overseeing the timely review of market risk limits aligned with the framework.
  • Reviewing and approving the market risk related to exceptional transactions and amendments to trading mandates.
  • Defining risk measurement methods such as stress tests, regulatory measures, and VaR methodologies.

Requirements and Qualifications

Essential:

  • Degree from a leading university with an excellent academic record, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Good foundational understanding of financial markets.
  • Strong verbal, written communication, and networking skills, with excellent proficiency in English. Additional languages are an advantage.
  • Proficiency with MS Office tools, including Excel.
  • Strong organizational, multitasking, and time management skills.
  • Team player, proactive, independent, enthusiastic self-starter with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Good knowledge of financial derivatives fundamentals (trading and risk management).
  • Proficiency with the Python programming language.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with equity products and equity market dynamics.

Internship Details

Location: London

Duration: 11 months

Note: Candidates may apply to four Long Term Internships over the course of a year. Successful candidates for this long-term internship will be considered for London only.
