What is the Opportunity?

The Higher Education Analyst provides analytical, research, and transactional support to investment bankers for tax-exempt and taxable debt capital markets activities, as well as work in mergers and acquisitions, asset and infrastructure monetization, and public-private partnerships.

Analysts are involved in every aspect of the business and play critical roles on banking teams serving a client base of some of the country’s largest public and private academic institutions.

What Will You Do?

  • Perform research, analytics, and financial modeling required to complete a transaction.
  • Produce extensive financial analyses to structure both straightforward and complex bond offerings.
  • Prepare projections, bond/loan portfolio analysis, and modeling and related financial analyses for potential and actual capital markets transactions, including data conversion, synthesis, and analysis.
  • Gather, organize, and analyze information necessary to prepare proposals, client presentations, offering statements, and marketing materials.
  • Prepare proposals and participate in presentations for prospective clients by describing financing alternatives in originating, structuring, and marketing a bond issue, and the ability to perform underwriting functions in a capable manner.
  • Develop an understanding of economic and political forces affecting the higher education and bond markets through internal and external resources.
  • Enhance the department’s use and knowledge of available information pertaining to the bond market by collecting, organizing, and maintaining marketing materials and information resources.
  • Coordinate internal and external activities relating to pricing and settlement of bond financings, and work closely with management and investment bankers to secure closings.
  • Develop data and analytical processing skills, including proficient knowledge of available modeling software.
  • Proactively identify operational risks and control deficiencies in the business.
  • Review and comply with Firm Policies applicable to your business activities.
  • Escalate operational risk/loss events, control deficiencies, and risks identified to your manager and the relevant risk and control functions promptly.
  • Perform other duties, responsibilities, and authority as may be reasonably required, consistent with the purposes for which you are being hired and your background, experience, and prior business activity.

What Do You Need to Succeed?

  • Located in New York City, NY; Boston, MA; Chicago, IL; or San Francisco, CA, with flexibility for other locations if appropriate.
  • BA/BS degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Economics, with a demonstrated record of high achievement.
  • Related professional financial services experience.
  • Obtain Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) and Series 52, 63, and 79 licensing (not all licenses are required for application, but 52, 63, and 79 will be required shortly after hiring).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Quantitative and qualitative analytical skills; strong knowledge of finance and accounting, with the ability to analyze numbers proficiently.
  • Prior experience with public-private partnerships, asset and infrastructure monetization, and mergers and acquisitions is preferred.
  • Highly motivated, committed, and responsible, with a demonstrated ability to manage conflicting priorities and requests.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain relationships at all organizational levels.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and function independently, balanced with strong team skills.

The expected salary range for this particular position is $80,000 - $110,000, depending on your experience, skills, and registration status, market conditions, and business needs.
