Junior Reinsurance Specialist (Ceded Reinsurance Casualty Technical Operations)
AXA XL is seeking a Junior Reinsurance Specialist within the Ceded Reinsurance Casualty Technical Operations team in London. Ceded Reinsurance is a strategic function within AXA XL responsible for defining and implementing the reinsurance strategy and administering reinsurance treaties through their lifecycle. Ceded Re Operations administers all Treaty Reinsurance business written within AXA XL and is composed of Technical Operations, Technical Accounting, Data & Operations Reporting, and Central Operations.
What You’ll Be Doing
This role is responsible for the administration and lifecycle management of global reinsurance treaties for Casualty lines of business. Key activities include managing treaty operations and supporting the end-to-end ceded reinsurance process.
- Manage the lifecycle of treaties for global reinsurance for Casualty lines of business.
- Participate in all aspects of ceded reinsurance administration, including liaising with cessions to pools.
- Set up policies in core systems for treaty business.
- Ensure premiums are paid in line with contractual obligations.
- Identify and apply ceded recoveries.
- Work with broking intermediaries to resolve reinsurer queries.
- Use the Retro RI tool to ensure correct QS cessions.
- Manage and operate ceded reinsurance in three operating system tools.
- Support the setup of Facultative business in core systems, liaising with underwriters regarding contract provisions.
- Manage and adhere to payment terms.
- Work with broker intermediaries to resolve account queries (including sanctions) to ensure cash flow is optimized.
- Build strong relationships with the ESS Shared Services team in India and hold regular calls to discuss workload and issues, providing support as required.
- Support the Ceded Re transformation journey by actively participating in projects aimed at improving efficiency.
- Review processes and suggest improvements where appropriate.
- Oversee cash calls issued in accordance with contractual provisions.
- Ensure all contractual reporting requirements are met.
- Work closely with the Technical Accounting team to support the credit control process and improve cash flow.
- Attend regular meetings with Ceded Placement Officers to understand new placements and how ceded is applied.
- Review and provide sign-off on new policy setup completed by ESS Shared Services in core systems.
- Oversee large loss reporting to senior management for ceded inputs.
Environment and Challenges
The Ceded Re Operations team maintains accurate records of ceded reinsurance transactions (Treaties, Facs, and Captives) across AXA XL business units (UK & Lloyds, Americas, APAC & Europe). The team is accountable for treaties (excluding internal treaties) representing approximately $7.4Bn of ceded premiums in B2022 (circa 70 treaties), including:
- Approximately 700 contracts set up per year in the three operating tools
- Approximately 80k bordereaux issued per year
- Approximately 1.2k statements issued per quarter for QS treaties
- Approximately 40k claims movements reviewed per month (Genius)
Team Engagement
- Work closely with the Shared Services India team, including monitoring, review, and training on reinsurance treaty matters.
- Collaborate with inward processing Middle Office for RI-related topics such as Facultative.
- Support claim management with brokers and reinsurers for any queries arising.
- Coordinate with Legal on claims-related matters and sanctions-related issues.
- Build relationships with internal claims adjusters and support large claim matters.
- Communicate with Finance & Actuarial on any claims adjustments post-close for accrual consideration.
- Liaise with the Ceded Claims group on large claim matters.
Reporting Line
You will report to the Head of Regional Accounting Operations, Ceded Reinsurance, Unite.
