Stock Exchange and Depository Operations

Brief Overview

Every stock trade, IPO, dividend payment, and investor account in Singapore's securities market relies on strong operational foundations. As an intern in The Stock Exchange and Depository Operations (SXO) unit, you will gain firsthand exposure to how one of Asia's leading financial market infrastructures operates behind the scenes while working on real business challenges and innovation initiatives.

Learning Objectives

• Play a direct role in maintaining confidence in Singapore's financial markets by building expertise in one of the most critical functions supporting capital markets.
• Work on high-impact initiatives spanning listings, trading, clearing, settlement, custody, corporate actions, and customer servicing.
• Drive innovation through automation, AI, and process transformation.

Applied AI & Automation Capstone:

Beyond your daily unit operations, you will participate in an Applied AI & Automation Capstone Project. You will identify manual workflows within SXO and prototype real-world automated solutions (e.g., using AI Agents, Workflow automation tools, or VBA/Python) to drive immediate business impact and operational efficiency.

Job Description

As an intern in the operations team, you will be assigned to master the daily workflows of one of the following core functions. By mastering your specific area, you will learn how it connects and understand how the functions work:

Market Operations

The Market Operations function ensures the smooth and orderly operation of SGX's securities market. The team supports trading activities and the launch of new products and IPOs, working closely with various stakeholders to bring companies and investment products to market efficiently and accurately.

Clearing House

The Clearing House function ensures that securities and funds are exchanged accurately and on time after trades are executed. The team manages the post-trade process and associated risks, playing a vital role in maintaining market stability, confidence, and trust in Singapore's financial markets.

Issuance & Custody

The Issuance & Custody function supports issuers and investors through the safekeeping of securities, maintenance of securities records, and processing of corporate actions such as dividends and rights issues. The team plays an important role in ensuring that investors receive their entitlements accurately and that securities are properly administered throughout their lifecycle.

Account & Transaction

The Account & Transaction function supports investors and depository agents through the management of securities accounts and processing of transactions. The team ensures account records are maintained accurately while facilitating securities transfers, fund movements, and customer servicing activities that support the day-to-day operation of Singapore's securities market.

AML KYC

The AML KYC function administers enterprise-wide financial crime compliance frameworks through customer due diligence, ongoing monitoring, and risk assessments to ensure regulatory compliance and mitigate money laundering and terrorism financing risks. The team plays a critical role in safeguarding SGX and Singapore's financial ecosystem by identifying and preventing illicit activities that could impact market integrity and reputation.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

• Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and a practical problem-solving mindset.
• Initiative, ownership, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
• Proficiency in using AI tools for process optimization and data analysis, such as creating AI Agents or AI Orchestration Flows.
• Experience with workflow automation tools (such as n8n, Power Automate, or Zapier) is a plus.
• Experience in programming (VBA/Python) is an advantage.
