Trading Analyst Intern - Carbon Desk

As a Trading Analyst Intern on the carbon desk, you will support the desk across market intelligence and financial modeling. This is a broad, commercial role; you might one day be synthesizing market developments into a briefing, the next building a valuation model, or helping prepare deal documentation.

This is a specialized, desk-specific role, distinct from our broader Data & Analytics internship, built around commercial and financial analysis in support of the carbon business.

Key Responsibilities

Market Intelligence & Commodity Insights

• Monitor, extract, and synthesize macro trends, market dynamics, and supply/demand fundamentals from a variety of sources.
• Translate complex market data into actionable insights, daily/weekly briefs, and thematic research to inform trading and origination.
• Track regulatory developments, policy shifts, and emerging dynamics across key regional markets.

Financial Modelling & Project Evaluation

• Build and update financial models, project-finance structures, and unit-economics models.
• Understand and evaluate carbon project risks, viability, and risk-adjusted returns.
• Contribute to client presentations and pitch preparation, presenting financial analysis and strategic insights to stakeholders.

Data & Reporting Support

• Extract and pull data from web sources, portals, and internal systems (including light web scraping).
• Maintain, update, and run existing reports, trackers, and dashboards.
• Clean and organize data feeding into models, briefings, and reports.

Education and Experience Requirements

• Pursuing a degree in Finance, Economics, Quantitative Finance, Financial Engineering, Business, Accounting, Mathematics, Statistics, or Engineering.
• Solid financial modeling ability: proficiency in three-statement models, DCF, and core valuation methods.
• Strong grasp of financial metrics and deal economics (IRR, NPV, sensitivities).
• Strong analytical, research, and communication skills.
• An interest in carbon markets, commodities, or origination.

Nice to Have

• Exposure to project finance, valuation, or transaction analysis.
• Ability to work with data using Python and/or SQL.
• Familiarity with market intelligence and benchmark platforms.
• Understanding of carbon markets, energy, or commodity fundamentals.
