Internship Opportunity: Cybersecurity Department at Temasek

Temasek's Cybersecurity department is seeking full-time interns to support various cybersecurity initiatives across different teams. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain first-hand experience in planning and executing cybersecurity projects while developing valuable technical and business skills within a global investment company.

The department is structured around four key technical pillars: (1) Defence and Resilience, (2) Governance and Oversight, (3) Architecture and Engineering Operations, and (4) Innovation, Incubation & Initiatives. While specific domain requirements are listed below, interns will have opportunities for cross-functional learning.

Intern Roles

Defence and Resilience Intern

This role assists in strengthening Temasek’s cybersecurity resilience through the development and execution of an effective cyber resilience programme and the establishment of new/advanced cyber capabilities to enhance awareness, readiness, and monitoring. This drives a culture of cyber resilience across Temasek and its ecosystem.

• Drive security awareness through innovative and engaging methods to embed cybersecurity into daily practice.
• Develop compelling technical content suitable for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Design interactive training programs to convert complex security concepts into actionable behaviors.
• Plan and facilitate realistic tabletop exercises to prepare operational and management teams for real-world cyber threats.
• Monitor the effectiveness of existing awareness programmes, gather feedback, and recommend continuous improvements.

Governance and Oversight Intern

This role supports the continuous enhancement and implementation of an effective governance and risk management framework to manage technology, data security, and cyber risks enterprise-wide, enabling better preparedness against evolving threats.

• Perform Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) duties, including policy reviews, risk assessments, and control testing.
• Identify gaps in governance frameworks and propose enhancements to strengthen oversight.
• Provide support for GRC-related reviews and processes.
• Track audit findings and follow up with IT partners/vendors on assurance findings.
• Maintain accurate records of compliance processes, risk registers, and assurance reports.

Architecture and Engineering Operations Intern (Security Operations)

This role supports Temasek’s security operations through monitoring, compliance checks, documentation streamlining, incident response coordination, governance enhancement to address operational risks, and project management support.

• Perform ongoing monitoring of security operations hygiene and controls compliance using management tools and techniques to detect operational irregularities.
• Support the development, maintenance, and streamlining of operational SOPs, playbooks, configuration baselines, and operational reports to boost efficiency.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure prompt incident response and containment activities.
• Drive and improve security governance to identify operational gaps and risks across the security solution stack.
• Provide project management support for ongoing initiatives.

Architecture and Engineering Operations Intern (Architecture)

This role assists in supporting and planning Temasek’s cybersecurity defense strategy based on current and future needs.

• Support security technology evaluations and proof-of-concept for security solutions, documenting findings and recommendations.
• Research emerging security threats, technologies, vulnerabilities, and industry trends.
• Assist in creating technical security documentation, diagrams, and presentations to support solution design and stakeholder communication.

Innovation, Incubation & Initiatives Intern

This role focuses on forward-looking security challenges.

• Research and evaluate emerging technology risks (e.g., quantum computing, agentic AI) and identify potential security use-cases and mitigations.
• Support initiatives to enhance the detection of hard-to-detect threats by exploring advanced solutions (e.g., automation, advanced analytics) to improve alert quality, triage speed, and mitigation workflows.
• May support the establishment of an Insider Risk & Security (IRS) capability to improve visibility of insider threats and enable timely response actions.

Requirements and Qualifications

Commitment & Education

• Must be able to commit full-time for a minimum of 20 weeks. Full-time (5 days/week) or minimum part-time (4 days/week) commitment is strongly preferred.
• Applicants must indicate their availability (start and end date) and expected graduation date.
• Must be a university undergraduate pursuing degrees in Computer Science, Information Security, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or IT Management. Applicants from other disciplines with a demonstrated interest in cybersecurity are welcomed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior internship experience(s) with demonstrated capabilities in cybersecurity, IT security, or related fields will be considered a strong plus.
• Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment, capable of multitasking and handling complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
• Ability to actively listen to instructions and demonstrate understanding of assignment expectations (deadlines and deliverables).
