Your Role

As a Junior User Experience Designer, you will join the growing AI & Digital Factory community. We are passionate about user-centred design, critical thinking, problem solving, and designing and building digital services and products. In this role you will:

  • Use different techniques to understand users and their needs, translating user stories and proposing user-focused, evidence-based design approaches.
  • Design and prototype user interfaces, ensuring alignment with user needs and business goals for public and private sector clients.
  • Advocate for accessible and impactful services, ensuring solutions meet accessibility and inclusivity standards.
  • Work in a fast-paced, evolving environment using an iterative method and a flexible approach to enable rapid Agile delivery.
  • Communicate across organisational and technical boundaries, making complex and technical information simple and accessible for non-technical audiences.
  • Learn how AI can enhance design processes.

You will also contribute to the business and your personal growth through activities across the following categories:

  • Business Development – Contributing to proposals, RFPs, bids, proposition development, client pitch contributions, and client hosting at events.
  • Internal contribution – Campaign development, internal think-tanks, whitepapers, practice development (operations, recruitment, team events and activities), and offering development.
  • Learning & development – Training to support career development and skills demand within the company, including certifications.

Your Profile

  • At least 1 year of experience in a User Experience Designer role or working in a design-focused role in a professional setting.
  • A love of learning—eager to develop your skills in parallel with client needs.
  • A keen interest in User-Centred Design, including keeping up to date with industry developments and undertaking self-led learning.
  • Eligible for SC (Security Check) Clearance.
  • An empathetic approach and the ability to listen to technical and business stakeholders to interpret their needs for both audiences.
  • Working knowledge of iterative design processes and UCD methodologies.
  • Competence in using design tools to prototype user interfaces at different fidelity levels to test and validate designs.
  • Basic experience using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Basic familiarity with Government Digital Service (GDS) service standards and GDS design principles.
  • Clear and effective communication of design decisions to present concepts to team members and stakeholders.

Ideally, you would also have:

  • A design portfolio showcasing the design work you have produced.
  • Experience working within a User Centred Design team.
  • Ability to build prototypes using code to create dynamic prototypes using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript at a basic level.
  • Experience with GOV.UK Prototyping Kit and Figma.
  • Knowledge of relevant accessibility standards and legislation, such as the Web Content Accessibility Regulations (WCAG).
