Risk Consulting Intern (Technology Risk Consulting)

RSM is a global provider of professional services to the middle market. As a Risk Consulting Intern in Technology Risk Consulting (TRC), you will support businesses across industries including manufacturing, real estate, construction, financial institutions, not-for-profit, healthcare, and private equity. Interns receive hands-on client experience with direct access to business owners and executive management.

Our clients rely on effective risk management and internal audit services to achieve their business objectives. TRC helps middle market leaders transform their technology risk management and assurance capabilities, aligning key risks and strategies with their organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Understand client needs and expectations, including the business and industry, accounting and control systems, employee base, and company values
  • Assist clients in designing and optimizing controls using knowledge of business processes, accounting, and information technologies
  • Apply problem-solving and critical thinking to identify internal control deficiencies, evaluate risk implications, and advise clients
  • Assist in creating internal control documentation to support client engagements
  • Engage with client leadership on strategies to anticipate emerging technology risks
  • Support commonly performed TRC projects, such as:
    • Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and regulatory/compliance engagements for application and IT controls
    • System and Controls (SOC) reporting and other controls opinion services
    • Information technology controls testing in support of financial statement audits
    • Technical IT controls reviews
    • Internal audits over ERP systems, IT security, and other IT systems

Internship & Program Requirements

  • Completion of 90 credit hours
  • Working toward a B.A./B.S. degree (or equivalent) from an accredited university
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA preferred
  • Travel to assigned client locations may be required; must have access to reliable transportation to those locations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong multitasking and project management skills
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member
  • High degree of integrity and professionalism
  • Relevant academic focus (two preferred paths):
    • Major in Accounting and/or related degrees
    • Major in Information Systems and/or related degrees

Preferred Certifications

  • Certification or working toward certification as a CPA, CISA, or CIA (preferred; not required)

Compensation

Compensation Range: $35–$41 per hour
