Research Intern

Overview

The Research Intern is part of the Oil Research team based in Singapore. Reporting to the Head of Research – Asia Pacific, he/she will assist the team in producing analysis for oil products trading desks.

Main Responsibilities

• Track global oil flows by product grade, analyze emerging trends, and provide insights to trading desks.
• Assist in tracking changes in refinery capacity and turnarounds to build understanding of refinery operations during these periods.
• Provide timely and concise analysis of market developments in oil products markets, adding depth to existing analysis at the country and company level.
• Assist in producing regular market outlook slide packs for senior management.
• Act as an interface between traders and the IT front office team to maintain and add functionality to the internal reporting interface.
• Suggest new ways of displaying price and fundamentals data, and identify opportunities to improve automation in team workflows.
• Support ad-hoc projects that add value to research work developed by desk analysts.
• Perform other ad-hoc tasks assigned by the manager.

Qualifications & Experience

• Degree in Engineering (Chemical/Mechanical/Industrial/Maritime/Petroleum), Economics, Finance, Business Analytics, Data Science, or other STEM disciplines preferred.
• Strong analytical skills and high accuracy in data input.
• Advanced data skills including database management, coding, statistical analysis (back testing), and visualization (Excel, PBI, SQL, Python).
• Strong prioritization and time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure in a dynamic environment.
• Ability to work with tight deadlines.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently with limited supervision.
• Commit to the standard 5-day work week throughout the entire 6-month internship period.
