Overview
The Shipping Intern will rotate between two departments: the Marine Operation Analyst team (Tankers/Dry Bulk) and the Operations team. You will work directly with a multi-cultural international shipping team, including the Vessel Operations team, Post-fixture team, and Bunker Procurement team. You will be coached by experienced team members and gain Operations and Post-fixture knowledge through a 6-month internship.
What You Will Do
Marine Operation Team (Approximately 3 months)
- Gain exposure to direct communication with brokers and counterparties.
- Understand the collection process for various receivables and actively participate to help ensure timely collection of receivables.
- Track receivables collection trends and share insights with the business.
- Learn how to handle shipping claims (including what can or cannot be claimed), including the escalation process.
- Learn how demurrage is negotiated and translate the impact of negotiations to the business.
- Work closely with Post Operations and Accounting to support efficient processing of shipping and demurrage billing of receivables.
- Work with your supervisor to identify areas where shipping and demurrage receivables outstanding levels can be reduced.
Vessel Operation Team (Approximately 3 months)
The intern will be assigned to one Vessel Manager (Tankers/Dry Bulk) and will support the operation of selected vessel operations. The individual will learn how to manage different operation processes, including:
- Port Operations coordination.
- Cargo operations.
- Vessels’ documentation and certificates.
- Additional processes, such as bunkering and tank/hold cleaning-related activities.
