Trade Finance for Financial Institutions Intern
Internship Period: 11 January 2027 – 30 June 2027
Job Description
The intern will join the Trade Finance for Financial Institutions (TFFI) team within Transaction Banking APAC. The internship provides exposure to trade finance solutions, product sales, risk distribution, business analytics, and process improvement initiatives across bank and non-bank financial institution (NBFI) clients.
The internship combines practical business experience with analytical, research, and project-based learning, helping the intern develop an understanding of international trade finance, financial institution banking, client engagement/sales, and management reporting.
Responsibilities
1. Trade Finance for Financial Institutions (TFFI)
- Develop an understanding of trade finance products, risk participation structures, guarantees, and other TFFI solutions, including their commercial rationale and use cases.
- Gain exposure to the end-to-end FI-to-FI origination and distribution process, including opportunity identification, transaction structuring, credit approvals, documentation, execution, and booking.
- Conduct research on market developments, industry trends, and client activities to support business development and strategic discussions.
- Support transaction administration, pipeline monitoring, and business reporting activities relating to TFFI transactions.
2. Business Analytics, Data Management and Decision Support
- Design and maintain templates to gather, organise, and consolidate business data from multiple countries on various products.
- Support the preparation of management information and business reviews used by senior management to monitor business performance and support decision-making.
- Assist in developing analytical frameworks, dashboards, and presentations that translate data into actionable business insights.
- Perform ad hoc research and analysis relating to trade finance markets, financial institutions, and business initiatives.
3. Dashboard Production, Process Improvement and Automation
- Support the production of the monthly TFFI management dashboard through the collection, validation, and analysis of business data from multiple internal sources.
- Develop an understanding of key business performance indicators and their relevance to managing a regional trade finance business.
- Review existing reporting processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and consistency.
- Contribute to the enhancement of dashboard tools, reporting methodologies, and data visualisation.
- Participate in automation initiatives aimed at reducing manual processes and improving reporting capabilities through the use of technology and data tools.
4. Client Engagement and Master Agreement Negotiations
- Prepare briefing materials, market intelligence, and supporting analysis for meetings with bank and NBFI clients.
- Participate in client meetings and discussions alongside senior sales professionals to gain exposure to FI-to-FI trade finance origination, distribution, and relationship management activities.
- Develop an understanding of Master Agreements used in trade finance and secondary market risk participation transactions.
- Support ongoing Master Agreement negotiations by coordinating with clients and internal stakeholders, tracking key action items, and assisting with approval processes.

Job Requirements
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and within a regional team environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an interest in data analysis and reporting.
- Interest in financial institutions, trade finance, transaction banking, and risk distribution markets.
- Experience with data visualisation, dashboard creation, reporting automation, or process improvement initiatives would be advantageous.
- Good project management and organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
