This internship programme is full-time. Interns are involved in real-time work from Day 1. Leave of Absence (LOA) may be required to take on the internship.

Strategic Planning Office (SPO) – Brief Overview

The Strategic Planning Office (SPO) focuses on improving RegCo’s effectiveness through a whole-of-regulation approach. Key activities include:

• Horizon-scanning to detect and anticipate developing and incipient trends in the regulatory space
• Coordinating with other RegCo teams to identify and prioritise areas of focus, and to facilitate the planning process that supports work planning and the development of roadmaps for the medium to long term
• Working alongside the communications team on public communications

Learning Objectives

The selected intern will learn how SGX’s regulatory arm reviews and develops regulatory policies to meet the needs of the market. The intern will be exposed to different facets of SGX’s business and long-term strategic initiatives, as SPO works concurrently on multiple projects with various internal and external stakeholders.

Job Description

The intern will assist in:

• Internal monitoring, such as compiling and enhancing indicators of market health, and developing follow-up actions to mitigate areas of concern
• Researching developments in international and regional securities/derivatives markets, especially regulatory developments, and analyzing financial market trends (commercial and regulatory)
• Studying specific market/regulatory incidents (e.g., meme trading and instances of alleged or potential market manipulation) to understand implications for SGX and develop policy recommendations
• Preparing public communications (speeches, media releases, LinkedIn posts)

Knowledge and Skills Requirements

• Undergraduate studies in finance, economics or related fields
• Demonstrates a strong interest in and actively monitors ongoing developments in global and regional capital markets
• Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite, such as MS PowerPoint, MS Excel and MS Word
• Research and report writing skills, including the ability to summarise large amounts of textual information
• Knowledge of S&P Capital IQ and Bloomberg Terminal is a plus
