Role details

Transportation Associate (ATS)

Are you ready to help Amazon deliver world-class service in its transportation operations? Transportation Associates perform trailer moves in the trailer yard, coordinate yard activities (such as checking in trailers and managing traffic flow), conduct yard audits, complete applicable driver training programs (including Hostler and Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) School), and operate multiple vehicle types based on business needs—including, but not limited to, hostlers and day cabs—to support Amazon’s transportation network.

Responsibilities

  • Make safety a priority by adhering to company rules and regulations; follow and enforce safety measures and policies for anyone operating vehicles on behalf of Amazon and anyone entering the yard, including vendors and senior team members.
  • Perform various yard and site support functions as needed to ensure trailers arrive and depart on time with zero defects, and to maintain workflow for buildings.
  • Complete training to operate Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMVs) on non-public roads or in the yard to move trailers to and from dock and parking locations.
  • Learn and comply with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company policies and procedures related to DOT requirements (including size, weight, route designations, parking, trailer designations, violation and incident reporting, and break periods).
  • Complete driver vehicle inspection reports on equipment and notify managers of any maintenance or delivery issues encountered.
  • Follow hostler and delivery schedules; track and report working hours and breaks in compliance with Amazon policy and federal and state regulations.
  • Adhere to yard safety policies, obey applicable traffic laws, and drive according to weather and road conditions.
  • Support the business on an as-needed basis by serving as a peer trainer and/or working at nearby site locations within the area.
  • Drive, maneuver, and load/unload a truck using approved equipment (such as a pallet jack).

Team Benefits & Opportunities

  • Opportunity to work outside and operate different commercial motor vehicles in the yard and over the road.
  • Exposure to different Amazon site types, including NACF, NASC, Air, AMZL, and AMXL.
  • Long-term growth potential through comprehensive transportation training with Amazon.
  • Depending on business need, the opportunity to earn your Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) paid for by Amazon.

Additional CDL / Driver Qualification File (DQF) Requirements (If Requested)

If requested due to business need, Transportation Associates must obtain their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and Driver Qualification File (DQF) and utilize them as a condition of the role, paid for by Amazon.

If the Associate is requested to become CDL and DQF certified to drive Over-the-Road for Amazon, the position is regulated by the DOT and follows regulations issued by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). The candidate must hold a valid driver’s license for the state in which they reside and be eligible to drive in accordance with DOT requirements. For DOT/Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration roles (roles for which you receive a CDL), English proficiency is required per federal regulation.

Continuing in the position with CDL and DQF certification is contingent upon successful completion of a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening, a DOT physical, and Amazon’s pre-employment drug test.

Basic Qualifications

  • High school or equivalent diploma.
  • Valid and active driver’s license.
  • 21 years of age or older.
  • Ability to understand and adhere to job requirements and safety guidelines in English.

  • Ability to work 40 hours per week and overtime as required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule/shift/work area, including weekends, nights, and/or holidays.
