Purpose of the Role

  • To provide a quality claims advocacy service with responsibility for ensuring the effective management and settlement of claims within all classes of our energy business. This includes:
    • Upstream Oil and Gas (property/construction)
    • Downstream Energy/Petrochemical (property/construction)
    • Power Generation (property/construction)
    • Renewable Energy (property/construction)
    • Energy Casualty (third party liability)

A Claims Advocate is a strategic partner, focused on driving client success and business growth. They leverage expert communication and persuasive insurance policy analysis to present compelling cases to insurers on behalf of clients. By anticipating potential challenges and addressing stakeholder concerns, they ensure optimal outcomes throughout the claim's lifecycle.

Main Responsibilities

  • Management and control of a variety of claims within all Energy business lines, with a focus on energy liability and a specific marine-related account.
  • On receipt of claim notification, identify the risk, review details with coverage/wording, acknowledge to client/intermediary, prepare the claims file accurately and promptly, and maintain in-house claims records.
  • Produce claims information and present to insurers or clients, in written or networked format; respond to instructions, queries, and enquiries.
  • Monitor insurers’ agreement and payment of funds, ensuring payment to the appropriate beneficiary.
  • Report any claims difficulties immediately to management.
  • Notify insurers’ instructions to the client/expert and vice versa. Build meaningful relationships with clients, experts and insurers by being prompt, friendly, and professional.
  • Maintain effective liaison with placing colleagues and, where required, provide claims statistics for renewal or onboarding of new clients; participate in the sales and onboarding process as requested.
  • Coordinate with accounting colleagues regarding collection/payment of funds, queries, and clearance of accounting entries.
  • Keep up to date with market and system changes; build a strong market network within the energy claims community.
  • Monitor workload and report to management as appropriate.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in business, law, economics, or engineering preferred but not required.
  • A desire to achieve ACII status within a reasonable timeframe.
  • 1–3 years with a broker, insurer, lawyer, or loss adjuster handling upstream energy claims. Alternatively, experience in other energy lines, property, or marine with interest in moving into energy. Applicants without insurance experience will be considered if they demonstrate a strong desire to learn and develop in insurance.
