Summary of Role
This role is for our Malta site Fab 8, a 300mm leading edge semiconductor manufacturing facility. As a Maintenance Technician Apprentice, you will monitor, sustain, and improve equipment and/or processes in the assigned area, partnering with production team members and area engineers. Technicians monitor equipment performance, schedule and perform preventive and corrective maintenance on assigned tool sets, and use mechanical, electronic, and PC/software skills to troubleshoot and resolve equipment-related issues. Concise communication of equipment and area status to the Lead Tech and/or Engineer is essential.
Program Details
Maintenance Technician Apprentices will complete four college courses through HVCC during the 18-24 month apprenticeship at no cost to the employee. Upon successful coursework completion, positive performance reviews, and 2700 hours of on-the-job training, apprentices are eligible for promotion to a Level 2 Maintenance Technician with a corresponding pay adjustment. Prior credits will be considered.
Essential Functions – Skills
- Follow detailed instructions and procedures to complete tasks
- Work safely and responsibly in line with FAB8 EHS&S policies
- Work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Support and engage in training activities
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment per operating procedures
- Monitor, control, and test semiconductor equipment for manufacturing readiness
- Recover equipment from process interruptions, document events, and communicate end-of-shift pass-downs
- Prioritize and plan daily work using effective time management
Essential Functions – Physical Capacity Demands
- Stand for >85% of a 12-hour shift (excluding breaks)
- Walk on uneven surfaces for >85% of a 12-hour shift
- Lift, pull, and/or carry at least 50 pounds periodically
- Lifting equipment and tools above 50 lbs may require a two-person lift
- Manually manipulate hand tools and small hardware for >85% of a 12-hour shift
- Climb ladders, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and crawl for >85% of a 12-hour shift
- Use a computer (typing, screen time) for >85% of a 12-hour shift
- Work in a cleanroom environment per semiconductor protocol/requirements
- Wear required cleanroom clothing for a minimum of 10 hours per day
- Wear upgraded PPE as required (safety shoes, safety glasses, chemical splash apron & gloves, full-face shield)
- Remain compliant with OSHA & NIOSH CFR 29 1910.134 for extended respirator use if required
Preferred Functions – Skills
- Review SPC charts for process quality and react to Out-of-Control conditions
- Develop and enhance operating procedures
- Participate in continuous improvement projects and skills development
- Read and comprehend schematics, blueprints, and electrical diagrams
- Use basic hand tools with quality workmanship principles
- Troubleshoot and apply structured problem-solving techniques
- Understand electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems
Other Responsibilities
- Perform all activities safely and support Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs
Required Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience: None required (some relevant experience welcomed, e.g., automotive repair, HVAC, electrical work, etc.)
- Travel: Minimal
- Language: English (written and verbal)
- Basic reading/writing comprehension and basic computer skills (Windows, Microsoft Office, Outlook)
- Able to work in a cleanroom environment per semiconductor protocol/requirements
- Able to stand for extended periods and lift equipment/tools as described above
- Flexible and willing to work any shift (3-4 days alternating weeks, day or night)

Alternating Week Shift Schedules
- A (days): Week 1 Sunday–Wednesday 6:00 AM–6:30 PM; Week 2 Sunday–Tuesday 6:00 AM–6:30 PM
- B (nights): Week 1 Sunday–Tuesday 6:00 PM–6:30 AM; Week 2 Sunday–Tuesday and Saturday 6:00 PM–6:30 AM
- C (days): Week 1 Thursday–Saturday 6:00 AM–6:30 PM; Week 2 Wednesday–Saturday 6:00 AM–6:30 PM
- D (nights): Week 1 Wednesday–Saturday 6:00 PM–6:30 AM; Week 2 Wednesday–Friday 6:00 PM–6:30 AM
- Shift schedules are subject to change
Expected Salary Range
$36,200.00 - $59,200.00
