Overview

Global Banking and Markets (GBM) is a leading Capital Markets and Investment Banking platform with a competitive presence across the Americas, operating globally for over 100 years. Scotiabank’s strong US presence provides clients with a vital bridge to global markets for trade and investment flows across the Americas and the world. GBM offers a full range of investment banking, credit and risk management products and services, including debt and equity financing, mergers & acquisitions, corporate banking, institutional equity sales, trading and research, fixed income, derivatives, energy, foreign exchange and precious metals, along with wholesale products and services such as transaction banking and trade finance solutions.

Purpose

Global Analytics and Financial Engineering is a critical function within the Bank’s GBM division. The derivatives valuation models and analytics developed by the team are used globally for pricing, hedging, risk management, trading limits and capital. The accuracy and performance of these models directly impact GBM’s competitiveness and profitability. The analytics enable the business to view and manage risks efficiently.

What You'll Do

  • Champion a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Collaborate with senior team members to learn about derivatives products, valuation models, and the model development technology stacks.
  • Develop valuation models for Emerging Markets products, ensuring theoretical soundness, numerical accuracy, and correct implementation.
  • Participate in the development and support of front office analytics used for pricing, hedging, and risk management.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to model and analytics stakeholders such as trading and sales, risk management teams, and technology groups.
  • Apply the bank’s risk appetite and risk culture in day-to-day activities and decisions.

What You'll Bring

  • Doctorate or master’s degree in quantitative finance, mathematics, computer science, physics, or other quantitative fields.
  • Up to 2 years of post-graduate experience with a passion for quantitative finance.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of numerical methods and computational modelling (e.g., finite difference/finite element, Monte Carlo simulation, optimization, artificial intelligence).
  • Strong programming skills in C++ or Python; willingness to learn additional languages.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Solutions-focused attitude with ownership over delivery and a proactive approach to learning and contributing to team outcomes.
  • Knowledge of reinforcement learning or deep learning is a plus.
  • Strong organizational, analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
