The Geopolitical Policy Strategist Internship offers a unique opportunity at the intersection of geopolitics and financial markets within a leading institutional hedge fund. As a member of BAM’s Global Affairs team, you will collaborate directly with the Chief Global Affairs Officer and subject matter experts across the firm. This internship is designed for individuals passionate about understanding how geopolitical developments shape market dynamics and investment strategies.

In this role, you will play a key part in advancing BAM’s strategic priorities by identifying and analyzing market-moving geopolitical events, conducting in-depth policy research, and developing frameworks to monitor and quantify geopolitical risk across asset classes. You will also gain exposure to high-level decision-making processes, contribute to the firm’s understanding of regulatory and policy shifts, and help translate complex global narratives into actionable investment insights. Responsibilities

This role will report to the Chief Global Affairs Officer in New York. The intern will help:

• Identify geopolitical market-moving catalysts.
• Conduct deep policy research, market sentiment analysis, and engage in alternative geopolitical data collection efforts.
• Develop frameworks for monitoring geopolitical risk across different asset classes (equities, fixed income, credit, etc.).
• Monitor market-moving developments in Congress, the Supreme Court, US agencies, and regulators.
• Synthesize key US and EU regulatory efforts as they relate to the financial and other key sectors.
• Outreach to the geopolitical expert network.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Must be local to the BAM New York City Office (this is an in-person internship opportunity for both winter and summer).
• Availability to intern in a part-time capacity over the winter (20 hours per week from January to May) and full-time capacity over the summer (June – August).
• Must be a May 2027 or May 2028 graduate pursuing a bachelor's degree in Political Science, Government, Economics, Public Policy, PPE, Public Macro, or Finance.
• Demonstrated experience in politics or policy through academic studies, internships, research, or extracurricular activities (e.g., MUN, debate, Federal Reserve challenges).
• Understanding of policy implications on businesses and financial markets.
• Passion for the intersection between geopolitics and financial markets.
• Ability to communicate effectively, with excellent reading comprehension and writing skills.
• Self-directed and resourceful researcher with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Superior time management skills and quick problem-solving capabilities.
• Strong quantitative skills, including probabilistic thinking and scenario analysis.

With respect to NY, CA, and IL based applicants, the starting base pay range for this role is between USD 8000 and USD 8000 monthly. The actual base pay is dependent upon several factors, including, but not limited to, relevant experience, business needs, and market demands. This role may also be eligible for bonus compensation and employee benefits.
