Candidates should be versatile, eager, and able to work in a fast-paced, time-sensitive financial and technical environment. To be eligible for this internship, applicants must be enrolled in a university or college program and should not be scheduled to graduate before December of the year in which the internship takes place. The internship program runs from June to August, and you will wrap up your internship with a final presentation and retreat.

Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) Intern: Linux Engineering

The Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team is responsible for performance tuning and capacity planning for multiple high-performance, ultralow-latency financial exchanges. The SRE team also provides operational support for these exchanges to maintain system availability and optimal performance.

The SRE team works closely with Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, and Network Engineering teams to troubleshoot complex issues, coordinate and support platform configuration updates, and leverage new cutting-edge technologies. The SRE intern role is an excellent opportunity to learn about complex software systems and financial markets.

Responsibilities and Learning Objectives

  • Provide technical support to sustain resiliency and high availability of financial exchanges
  • Analyze performance metrics and optimize exchange latency
  • Collaborate with Infrastructure/Development teams for technology upgrades and migrations
  • Support Cboe’s Incident Management process to resolve and investigate technical issues
  • Drive and implement capacity planning decisions for Operations
  • Develop, test, and maintain automation and monitoring tools

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or higher and should not be scheduled to graduate before December of the year in which the internship takes place
  • Desire to learn about technical operations for a financial exchange
  • Advanced Linux command line knowledge
  • High level of proficiency in Python and SQL
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Additional Skills (Preferred)

  • Ability to read and evaluate C++ (or similarly complex object-oriented languages)
  • Knowledge of stock and options trading

Compensation

Our pay range for interns is determined by function and education level. The national new hire base pay range for this job in the United States is $22.00 - $42.00 per hour.

Within the range, individual pay is determined by years of education completed. In addition to base pay, eligibility for our total rewards program may include benefits such as 401(k) with a generous company match and paid sick time. Your recruiter will provide more details about the total compensation package during the hiring process.
