Summer Intern (Underwriting – Energy)
AIG’s Summer Interns are immersed in the day-to-day operations of a fast-moving, global insurance company. During the 9-week program, you will gain valuable, hands-on experience and insurance industry knowledge, working with leaders on dynamic projects, with plenty of opportunity for challenges, learning, and achievement.
Summer Interns join one of our key business teams, which offers a unique opportunity to obtain core technical knowledge and professional skills in a diverse environment. In addition to meaningful on-the-job experiences, interns will join instructor-led masterclasses, hear directly from senior leaders, and build meaningful connections through mentoring circles, networking events, and volunteering.
Following completion of the internship program, interns may be considered for a role in the location where they completed their internship. The Analyst program is scheduled to begin in July 2028.
Responsibilities
- Support the evaluation and underwriting of risks across traditional and renewable energy, power generation, mining, petrochemicals, and related industries.
- Review underwriting submissions, operational information, financial data, and loss history to support risk selection, pricing, and coverage decisions.
- Collaborate with underwriters, risk engineers, claims professionals, and multinational specialists to develop tailored insurance solutions.
- Build relationships with brokers and clients while supporting new business and renewal opportunities.
- Monitor industry, regulatory, and emerging risk trends that may impact clients and underwriting decisions.
- Develop technical knowledge of energy insurance while building analytical, decision-making, and relationship-management skills.
Minimum Qualifications
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree to be received no later than June 2028 (unofficial transcript required upon application).
Program Requirements
- Available for the complete Summer Internship Program from June 7 through August 6, 2027.
- Summer Intern positions are in-person opportunities, requiring interns to work in the office at least four days per week.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively in a professional environment.
- Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to collaborate effectively, manage multiple priorities, and adapt in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Preferred majors include Risk Management & Insurance, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Engineering, Energy Management, or a related field.
- Demonstrated interest in the energy industry, commercial insurance, or risk management.
- Interest in complex operational and technical risks.
Compensation
For applicants in Colorado, Jersey City, and New York City, the hourly pay range for this position is $31.51 - $34.37.
