Programme Overview

The Risk Industrial Placement Programme aims to provide exposure to Operational Risk, the New Business Group, Credit Risk and Market Risk.

We offer industrial placements to students interested in learning about the banking business. The programme provides an opportunity to develop technical knowledge, gain on-the-job training, understand Nomura’s culture and create new networks.

Placement Structure

  • The first week includes classroom-based training to strengthen key technical skills and prepare you to perform in your team during the internship.
  • Following the training week, you join the Credit Risk department for the remainder of the placement year, completing tasks at a similar level to a first-year Analyst.
  • At the end of the placement, strong performers may receive offers to join the Graduate Programme.

Additional sessions during the year include soft skills sessions, product presentations, business overviews and social events.

Training and Support

  • Extensive training to build the skills needed to perform well during the internship.
  • Business overview presentations, structured classroom seminars, internal training by business representatives, and team-building with colleagues.
  • Ongoing performance feedback and access to division-specific educational sessions to support professional development.
  • Coaching and mentoring from managers focused on career development.
  • Support throughout the placement from a buddy, mentor and a dedicated programme management team.

What’s Your Role?

Working within the Credit Risk department, you will be tasked with daily global reporting deliveries and support a firm-wide initiative focused on process automation. You will also perform ad-hoc analysis on the exposure portfolio and trends.

Through this programme, you will gain in-depth knowledge of Credit Risk Management, including an overview of rating analysis, trading limits, reporting and the advice provided by Credit Risk analysts to manage counterparty exposure.

The placement provides exposure to risk managers across Nomura’s global network and a broad range of disciplines, including:

  • Market Risk
  • New Business Group
  • Operational Risk Management

Depending on the book of work, candidates may also have the opportunity to be involved in Market Risk Reporting.

What Are We Looking For?

  • Complete a 12-month placement year from June 2027 to June 2028 while enrolled at university.
  • Appreciation of modern data science techniques.
  • Fluency in English is essential.
