Description
What a College Intern – New Product Introduction Engineering (NPI IT Control Systems) does at HP:
- Assist vendors with setting up the facility and GRE for prototype setup.
- Assist and support vendors for machinery landing.
- Assist vendors and engineers with machinery/tooling installation, assembly system debugging, and commissioning.
- Work hands-on with suppliers to develop mechanical fixtures/jigs, including tooling design, modification/customization, installation, and testing.
- Develop tooling modification/customization and mechanical design improvements.
- Assist NPI engineers with process characterization, gage R&R, and NPI experiments.
- Support NPI engineers with FAT/SAT buyoff.
- Perform periodic maintenance and calibration of online and offline tooling/gages.
- Audit tooling maintenance and calibration.
- Operate and work hands-on with machinery for prototype build runs.
- Engage and assist NPI engineers on experimental builds, helping innovate and engineer new processes and manufacturing technologies.
- Support spare management.
- Maintain a master list of OS version information, anti-virus version, IP, backup, and related details for all PCs deployed in the prototype environment.
- Have knowledge of backup and storage systems to perform regular backup jobs, verify backup integrity, and support data recovery across platforms such as Windows OS, PLC systems, leak testers, vision systems, and offline test equipment.
Individuals who do well in this role at HP usually possess:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical/Software Engineering or Computer Science.
- Ability to commit to a 5–6 month full-time internship starting in January 2027.
- Ability to apply engineering fundamentals and concepts.
- Knowledge in failure analysis and characterization.
- Data analysis and Statistical Process Control (SPC).
- Ability to design components/subsystems using CAD.
- Ability to integrate new designs into existing processes.
- Ability to generate test plans and provide short-loop test methods and tools to support risk assessment.
- Strong teamwork skills and ability to collaborate and communicate ideas.
- Growth mindset.
- Knowledge of operating systems such as MS Windows and the MS Office environment.
- Knowledge of backup and storage systems.
- Competence in a factory automation environment, including debugging and troubleshooting Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and other factory automation hardware/software such as digital input/output, sensors and switches, and motion control.
- Proficiency in Allen Bradley PLC ladder programming.
- Basic experience configuring IT network infrastructure to support daily operations; understanding of TCP/IP basics such as configuring IP addresses and using ping commands.
- Ability to configure new switches and identify faulty network components such as network cards, cables, network ports, and switches.
- Basic understanding of security configuration.
- Basic understanding of anti-virus workings, including the ability to install/manage anti-virus deployment.
- Machine vision software and hardware (bonus).
- Ability to read and understand AC/DC schematics (bonus).
- Knowledge of Python programming, C#, or VB.net (bonus).
