Job Summary

The Critical Facilities Engineer III supports the operation, maintenance, and reliability of mission-critical data center infrastructure. This role performs a broad range of maintenance and operational activities while applying technical knowledge and established procedures to resolve issues and support site operations. Working as part of a collaborative team, the engineer helps ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations while continuing to develop expertise across critical facility systems.

Responsibilities

Facility / Infrastructure Maintenance

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on facility systems and equipment to support reliable operations.
  • Carry out repairs, inspections, and installation activities across facility infrastructure in accordance with established procedures and safety standards.
  • Monitor the Building Monitoring System (BMS) and respond to alarms by investigating issues and supporting resolution efforts.
  • Support the operation and maintenance of critical infrastructure, including electrical, mechanical, cooling, plumbing, fire suppression, and life-safety systems.
  • Assist with energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives by identifying opportunities and supporting implementation activities.
  • Perform day-to-day operational tasks independently while seeking guidance on more complex or unfamiliar situations.

Vendor Support

  • Coordinate with vendors and service providers performing maintenance activities within the data center.
  • Support the work approval process, including pre-work briefings, monitoring activities, and confirming completion of work.
  • Ensure vendor activities are conducted in accordance with site procedures, safety requirements, and operational standards.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate technical documentation, records, and asset information.

Site Administration & Incident Support

  • Prepare and maintain site documentation, permits, logs, and records, including Maintenance Operation Protocols (MOPs) and operational scripts.
  • Identify potential infrastructure risks and Single Points of Failure (SPOFs) and raise recommendations for review.
  • Respond to site incidents, equipment failures, and operational issues in accordance with established procedures.
  • Support incident investigations and documentation activities to improve operational reliability and resilience.
  • Apply operating procedures and compliance requirements to support safe and effective site operations.

Work Orders & Additional Projects

  • Complete operational work orders and support system installations related to facility infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain auxiliary systems and supporting equipment to minimize operational impact.
  • Support approved changes to mechanical, electrical, and specialized systems.
  • Participate in infrastructure upgrades, maintenance programs, lifecycle replacement initiatives, and site improvement projects.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts that enhance operational performance and reliability.

Collaboration

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support operational activities and resolve facility issues.
  • Share knowledge and support team members during maintenance activities and operational events.
  • Communicate inventory and spare-parts requirements to maintain operational readiness.
  • Participate in training and development activities to expand technical capabilities and support career growth.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Diploma or equivalent qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, Building Services Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent practical experience is also valued.
  • Typically 1–3 years of experience in critical facilities, facilities operations, data center operations, industrial facilities, building operations, or a related technical environment.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Understanding of electrical, mechanical, cooling, or building systems.
  • Familiarity with maintenance procedures, facility monitoring systems, and safe work practices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to safety, operational excellence, and continuous learning.

Work Requirements

  • Ability to perform hands-on operational and maintenance tasks within a data center environment.
  • Ability to work at height and in confined or tight spaces where required.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours, including shift-based schedules, weekends, night shifts, and public holidays to support 24x7 mission-critical data center operations.
