Howden Private Capital is the transactional risk arm of Howden, one of the world’s leading independent insurance brokers. We advise private equity sponsors, real estate investors, developers, REITs, lenders, and corporate clients on specialized insurance solutions that facilitate transactions, protect investments, and manage risk throughout the deal lifecycle. Our Real Estate Transactional Risk team partners with clients on acquisitions, dispositions, financings, restructurings, and development projects, providing tailored insurance solutions that support efficient transaction execution and capital protection.

Job Summary

The Analyst will support the execution and placement of transactional risk insurance solutions for commercial real estate transactions across North America. This role provides exposure to sophisticated real estate investments, transaction execution, risk assessment, insurance underwriting, and client advisory work.

The successful candidate will work closely with brokers, insurers, attorneys, lenders, consultants, and clients throughout the transaction process. This position is ideal for a highly motivated individual seeking to build a career at the intersection of commercial real estate, finance, and insurance.

Key Responsibilities

Transaction Execution & Insurance Placement

  • Support the execution of transactional risk insurance placements for commercial real estate transactions.
  • Assist in the preparation of underwriting submissions and insurer marketing materials.
  • Coordinate underwriting diligence requests and maintain transaction timelines.
  • Track transaction milestones and support the placement process from engagement through policy issuance.
  • Review transaction documents, purchase agreements, financing documents, leases, and property reports.

Risk Analysis & Due Diligence

  • Analyze environmental, title, zoning, tax, ownership, and operational risks associated with commercial real estate transactions.
  • Review due diligence reports, property assessments, surveys, environmental studies, and legal documentation.
  • Prepare transaction summaries and risk assessments for internal team members and insurer partners.
  • Assist in evaluating insurance solutions designed to mitigate identified transaction risks.
  • Conduct industry and market research related to emerging risks and insurance products.

Client & Insurer Engagement

  • Participate in client meetings, insurer calls, and underwriting discussions.
  • Serve as a day-to-day resource supporting communication among clients, insurers, attorneys, consultants, and lenders.
  • Assist in preparing client presentations and coverage recommendations.
  • Respond to insurer information requests and facilitate diligence coordination.

Market Research & Business Development Support

  • Monitor trends within commercial real estate markets, insurance markets, and transactional risk products.
  • Prepare benchmarking analyses and market intelligence reports.
  • Support the development of client presentations, thought leadership materials, and conference initiatives.
  • Assist with relationship management activities involving investors, developers, law firms, and advisors.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate, Finance, Business, Economics, Accounting, Risk Management, or a related field required.
  • Advanced coursework or real estate-focused certifications are a plus.

Experience

  • 0–3 years of experience in commercial real estate, investment banking, consulting, underwriting, insurance brokerage, valuation, lending, accounting, or a related field.
  • Internship experience in commercial real estate, finance, insurance, or transaction advisory is preferred.
  • Exposure to real estate transactions, underwriting, acquisitions, or due diligence processes is beneficial but not required.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong analytical and quantitative abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Ability to interpret financial, legal, and operational information.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Intellectual curiosity and a desire to develop expertise in commercial real estate transactions and risk management.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
